The Phoenix Suns’ powerful forward Kevin Durant has been in the limelight multiple times for Basketball and non-Basketball reasons. He is known for his IQ, experience, and defensive capabilities. He is undeniably one of the modern greats and is placed in the top 10 players’ lists by many. However, he is also known for his fiery social media presence and engagement with fans.
These responses that he often gives bring him under the gun for a lot of criticism and trolling by fans and analysts alike. One such criticism he recently received was in the 60-minute interview with Jon Wertheim, where Charles Barkley said, “He’s very sensitive. Great player. He’s part of that generation who think he can’t be criticized. He’s never looked in the mirror and said, ‘Man, was that a fair criticism?‘”
Their beef has been going on from time immemorial, and the duo has locked horns multiple times over multiple issues. Over the years, the feud has escalated through social media jabs and public interviews, further polarizing fans and pundits alike. Despite the rift, both players have remained steadfast in their opinions, making this a long-standing rivalry that continues to captivate the basketball community.
The long-standing beef of Charles Barkley and Kevin Durant

It all started with Barkley, who is known for his outspoken nature as an NBA analyst. He made critical comments about Durant’s decision to join the Golden State Warriors in 2016, calling it a cheat move and questioning Durant’s competitive spirit. This sparked a heated exchange of words between the two. Durant hit back at Barkley’s credibility as an analyst and defended his choice as a professional one
Since then, the beef has not only sustained but intensified. Barkley too, has called KD sensitive in the past. In the “All the Smokes” podcast with Matt Barnes, Barkley said, “He’s sensitive, 100% sensitive. But what I said and I’ll stick by it: KD is a great, great player, but he’s going to have to win a championship without the Warriors to get the old heads’ respect.”
Durant recently told reporters on April 12 that he “probably won’t sit down with Barkley to squash their beef.” Seeing all this, the beef is not ending anytime soon. As KD plans to spend some more time with the Suns and rumors of Kyrie Irving joining the team are squashed as he joins the Mavericks, it will be interesting to see whether or not he will be able to “win a championship without the Warriors to get the old heads’ respect.”
