Charles Barley explained, “They would take these girl’s trips four or five times a year … I would get the bill and I would tell her I don’t have Shaq’s type of money.” Barkley added, “It used to drive me crazy.” Well, the statement is not much of an astonishment as Barkley’s estimated net worth of $60 million pales in comparison to Shaq’s insane $400 million earnings.

The Hall of Famer shared that his mother, Charcey Glenn, and Lucille O’Neal, the mother of Shaq, share a deep friendship. Their bond extends back to a time long before their sons embarked on their basketball journeys. During the episode, the crew was mainly discussing Shaq’s HBO documentary, and this led to the two stars debunking the rumor that they still carried resentment from their basketball days. Barkley said, “We have so much fun on the show and people are like ‘Do you and Shaq really hate each other?”’

Following that, Barley dropped a heartwarming statement about his friendship with Shaq, explaining their bond throughout the years. After Barkley was done with his speech, the two embraced each other with a big hug. It was clearly a heart-touching sight for NBA fans.

Long before the dynamic duo of Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley brought joy to fans on NBA on TNT, they were fierce adversaries on the basketball court. In 1999, during that time, Shaq was a dominant force for the Los Angeles Lakers, on the brink of achieving a remarkable three-peat, while Barkley, in the twilight of his illustrious career, played for the Houston Rockets. The duo made headlines that year when they got into a brawl mid-game. The incident occurred after Shaq pushed Barkley on the floor, who then retaliated by throwing the basketball at the 7-footer, leading to an all-out fistfight between the TNT crewmates.

Shaq revealed that Barkley’s mother called him, insisting on an apology, and to make matters more interesting, Shaq’s mother joined the conversation, creating a three-way call to ensure her son offered his apology.

Until then, the two had no idea their moms were close friends. As per Shaq, “I hear this lady’s voice I’ve never heard before, ‘You better not put your hands on my baby!’ I was like, ‘Who’s this?’ ‘It’s Mama Barkley.”’ Shaq’s mom, who was also on the call, added ”Don’t you know we’ve been best friends for 20-30 years?!”

Following the incident, the two became close friends, especially after the two made the TNT Crew in 2011 and have been one of the most entertaining pairings in sports broadcasting circles.
