Charles Barkley has stirred up major controversy with his unpopular opinion on how ‘Blacks’ treat the gay community
Charles Barkley
Charles Barkley is receiving a lot of criticism for a controversial statement he made recently during an interview on CNN. The NBA on TNT broadcaster was a guest on CNN earlier this month as the elections were taking place. Barkley remarked that he thinks Black people treated homosexual people worse than anyone during his appearance, which sparked controversy.
Charles Barkley is renowned for not holding back when sharing his thoughts. The legendary NBA player and former MVP frequently found himself in hot water because he spoke his strong opinions without limiting them. It significantly contributes to his success as a TV analyst and public figure after his playing days.
Sports fans have taken to Barkley’s uncensored method of basketball analysis. Despite some opposition to his viewpoint, Barkley recently infuriated the black community with comments he made while appearing on CNN.
In the interview, Barkley stated: “One thing that’s always disappointed me: Black people treat gay people, we are the worst when it comes to treating gay people.” He then added: “That’s one thing growing up it always bothered me and I want to reach out to you and all my gay friends and my transgender friends.”
It is understandable that Barkley would be disappointed given the recent shooting at an LGBTQ bar in Colorado Springs. Barkley then asserts later in the segment that: “I understand being black what it is like being gay because you get mistreated and it’s really unfortunate and sad, and stupid to be honest with you.”

Charles Barkley’s illustrious basketball fame
As a player, Charles Barkley was without a doubt the biggest abnormality in NBA history. Despite being labeled as 6 feet 6 but actually measuring closer to 6 feet 4 due to his stature, he was one of the best power forwards in NBA history, dominating opponents who were half a foot taller.
Only five other NBA players—Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Karl Malone, Tim Duncan, and Kevin Garnett—have at least 20,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, and 4,000 assists. Of the six players that have accomplished this feat, Barkley is one.
The Chuckster also served as the league MVP in 1993, took part in a number of All-Star contests, and was named the All-Star MVP in 1991. For the bulk of his career, he was also a member of the All-NBA team. Barkley retired from basketball in 1999, and seven years later, in 2006, he was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. He was also chosen for the NBA’s 50th and 75th anniversary teams.
Barkley has evolved since his playing career is over into one of basketball’s biggest off-court stars, hosting TNT’s renowned “Inside the NBA” coverage and providing uninterrupted entertainment for basketball fans all over the world.
The repercussions of Charles Barkley’s comments
Barkley’s comments appeared to be encouraging, but many individuals objected that he was blaming the Black community.
They also think he disregarded evidence supporting that violence and hatred directed toward LGBTQ people do not originate from the Black community. He has always openly backed gay and transgender individuals, which is fantastic since they really need all the support they can get.
However, making a judgment about a whole group was the wrong move. But, Barkley doesn’t care what people think or say about him, so it’s unlikely that he will take back what he said and at this point, the overall scenario is just terrible.
