One of the most dominant NBA players of his time was Charles Barkley. The power forward easily outclassed his opponents despite being undersized, scoring points and snatching rebounds above them. Barkley wasn’t always likeable, despite the fact that he is now. The basketball legend ran into legal issues during his stellar professional career. The footballer was detained in 1991 after engaging in a bar brawl in Milwaukee.
In May 2019, Chuck related this tale to the “Inside the NBA” program. Before Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors, the piece aired.
During the episode, Barkley stated, “I took all my clothes off because I had these three guys who were trying to beat me up,” Barkley recalled. “I wanted them to think I was crazy.”
The basketball icon made light of the Milwaukee bar brawl by joking that he was acting like the “Karate Kid” during the incident. Barkley acknowledged that he removed all of his clothing during the battle when questioned if he removed his shirt. The altercation happened in December 1991, soon after the Philadelphia 76ers’ game versus the Milwaukee Bucks.
Charles Barkley’s bizarre encounter and arrest: The night he stripped to escape attackers
Charles Barkley removed his clothing in the hopes that the attackers would dismiss him as crazy and leave him alone. The basketball player was ultimately attacked by one of them after he insisted on standing directly in front of him.
A few hours after the altercation, the Philadelphia 76ers forward was detained at the team’s hotel, the Hyatt Regency. He missed the team’s trip return to Philadelphia because he was delayed in the jail before posting a $500 bail.
The 28-year-old Barkley might have been dissatisfied with his performance against the Bucks. He only managed a season-low 10 points on 4-for-10 shooting in Milwaukee’s 13-point defeat. The 6-foot-5 forward mishandled the ball four times, attempted six free throws, and made only four of them.
