NBA legend Charles Barkley made an appearance on First Take on Monday and shared his opinion on who is the better player between Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant. Despite Durant’s impressive scoring abilities, Barkley argued that Giannis is a better leader on the court.
The NBA legend pointed out that Durant’s leadership abilities were tested during his time with the Brooklyn Nets, where the team struggled with dysfunction and chaos. In contrast, Giannis has helped lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a 14-game win streak and is considered a strong leader on the court.
Barkley also questioned whether the 2-time NBA champion can lead the Phoenix Suns to a strong playoff performance this year, especially since Chris Paul’s advanced age means he may not be the same player he once was. The Suns legend believes that Paul’s leadership and playmaking abilities were critical to the Suns’ success last season, and Durant will have big shoes to fill in that regard.
“Kevin Durant is a great, great player, but he’s not better than Giannis,” said Barkley in a debate with Stephen A. Smith. “What about the leadership qualities?”

While Barkley’s comments focused on leadership, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s performance on the court this season is making him a top contender for the MVP award.Giannis is averaging 31.3 points, 12 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks per game on 53% shooting, which is among the best in the league. His impressive performance has helped lead the Bucks to a 14-game win streak and put them among the title favorites in the final stretch of the regular season.
