“I wish he was man enough to call and say…” Charles Barkley revealed frustration after ‘Best-Friend’ Tiger Woods cut all ties with him abruptly
Tiger Woods and Charles Barkley
Charles Barkley, an NBA Hall of Famer, has described how his relationship with Tiger Woods quickly came to an end after the 14-time major champion’s 2009 sex scandal. The two have not communicated since the day of Woods’ car accident on Thanksgiving night 2009, according to Barkley. Woods has many friends among athletes from a variety of sports because he comes off as a friendly individual. One of them is NBA superstar Barkley, who, in actuality, is no longer close with Woods.
They used to often play golf together and go out to parties. Tiger, however, abruptly cut off communication with many of them, including the Chuckster. The former Phoenix Suns star, who is as realistic as they come, was undoubtedly offended by this. Additionally, Barkley expressed his regret that Woods did not ask for help from the NBA star during the difficult times the golfer has gone through over the past several years and expressed how much he misses their relationship.
The long friendship of Charles Barkley and Tiger Woods had a sad ending.
Tiger Woods and Charles Barkley were previously close friends as their relationship lasted for almost 15 years. But Barkley revealed in 2015 that he has abandoned all relations with the legend. The two used to chat on the phone and occasionally hang out and g olf and other personal topics were also discussed. However, Barkley noted on a radio programme that their previous level of friendship had changed. Toward the end of 2009, he made it clear that Woods had shut him out of his life in which I t took place following the controversy that eventually resulted in Woods’ divorce.
In 2009, the public was swamped with information about Woods’ private life. Several women who claimed to have slept with Woods outside of marriage came forward. The 15-time major champion acknowledged marital failings at the year’s end. Woods lost a lot of his sponsors, and he stepped away from the PGA Tour. Woods, who was 33 at the time of the incident, was on his way to becoming the greatest golfer to ever live, had had won 14 major championships and 71 times on the tour at this point.
Alan Shipnuck’s official biography of Phil Mickelson includes a statement from Barkley in which he makes some offensive comments about Tiger. He said: “One of the reasons Phil has lasted so long is because he’s had a joyful life. Tiger won a bunch of tournaments, but there wasn’t much joy in it. But it’s not fun to be around him. Everyone in his world is uptight and sh-t, afraid to say or do the wrong thing.” Barkley also added: “But I just wish he would have been man enough to call and say that. To just disappear totally was disappointing.”
The former basketball player hadn’t spoken to the golf great in more than five years at the time of the program. Perhaps for this reason, Barkley didn’t appear to be all that sad about losing a formerly close buddy like Woods. However, it is strange to assume that such an odd circumstance caused the two to sever their connection. It demonstrates that Woods’ playing on the course has been what has been most important to him throughout his career.
