Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan were former finals opponent and teammates as well. They were both drafted in 1984 with Jordan going 3rd overall and Barkley 5th. They shared the floor in the 1993 NBA finals. Wherein Jordan’s Bulls beat Barkley’s Phoenix Suns in 6 games. They also played together in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics as well for Team USA.
Charles Barkley recently appeared on the ‘All The Smoke” podcast where he said, “He was my best friend at the time. And I love the guy and I miss the guy.” However, all of this sparked from Charles Barkley’s comments on Jordan as a general manager. Barkley said that he never knew whether he (Michael Jordan) would be successful as a general manager. Barkley made these comments 10 years ago. These comments were followed by a call from Jordan to Barkley where he said, “M*therf**ker, f**k you, you’re supposed to be my boy.”
Was Charles Barkley’s criticism justified?
Charles Barkley went on to mention that Jordan has a lot of ‘yes-men’ around him. Therefore insinuating that he will never know when he is doing something wrong, as nobody feels like correcting him. Notoriously, Michael Jordan has been known for taking things personally. This seems like one of those scenarios, albeit in a salty way more than anything.
Michael Jordan has been the GM of the Charlotte Hornets since 2010. Since then the Hornets have only made the playoffs 3 times and lost in the first round each time. Jordan was upset at Barkley for his words but Barkley might have been right. Barkley later stated that he was “Only doing his job” as an analyst. Charles has been an analyst at TNT for a while now. His comments on Jordan did not seem to shock anyone apart from Jordan himself.
Barkley still maintains that he has deep love and respect for Jordan and is willing to be friends again. Jordan is still the GM of the Hornets and knowing MJ, until they get successful, he will not talk to Barkley. Jordan has been like this his whole life and no matter how genuine Charles Barkley is, Jordan never likes his doubters. All Barkley can do is wait and hope that MJ is willing to rekindle their friendship.
