With a dominant effort in leading his team to their fourth championship, Stephen Curry has entirely altered the perceptions about him that were circulating throughout the NBA world. Curry challenged the doubters who thought he couldn’t be the best player in the world by earning his first Finals MVP award and turning in big performances  along the process. Curry’s recent achievements, according to Hall of Famer Charles Barkley, certainly raise his status among the greats.

The Warriors reclaimed their top place in the league when Klay Thompson returned from two major injuries and the Big Three was once again strong. As the Dubs defeated the Boston Celtics in the Finals to win the ring, Stephen Curry led the charge and have won four championships in their last eight seasons.

The Unanimous Finals MVP- Stephen Curry.

Stephen Curry had to wait four NBA championships and six Finals appearances to win his first Finals MVP award. After leading the Golden State Warriors to a six-game series victory against the Boston Celtics, he was voted MVP of the 2022 NBA Finals, his first time receiving the honour. The Warriors clinched the series with a 103-90 victory in Game 6. Curry had 34 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in the game, capping a series in which he averaged 31.2 points, six rebounds, and five assists while shooting 43.7 percent from outside the arc.

Early in Game 6, the Warriors fell behind, but quickly regained control, with Curry calling for his ring midway through the third quarter. The Warriors superstar did his iconic “night-night” celebration in front of a stunned TD Garden crowd after hitting a 3-point dagger in the final minutes of Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

Sir Charles Barkley weigh in on Curry’s ring No. 4.

On ESPN’s “Get Up,” Charles Barkley said: “This is going to be painful for me to say, but I think he passes Isiah Thomas as the greatest small guard ever.” Thomas has won two championships and was named Finals MVP once. Barkley’s declaration was complicated by the fact that the Chuckster and the Detroit Pistons legend are good friends. Isiah Thomas was a two-time NBA champion with the Detroit Pistons and was widely regarded as one of the greatest point guards of all time, with Magic Johnson being regarded as the best.

Stephen Curry, on the other hand, has far outperformed Thomas in terms of honours, effect on the game, and accomplishments but has yet to reach the level of Johnson as his accomplishments are practically impenetrable. He has three regular-season and NBA Finals MVP honours to his credit, as well as five championships plus an NCAA championship. So, it’s reasonable to say that Curry is now only mentioned in the same conversation as Magic Johnson when it comes to the best point guard to ever play the game.
