The NFL Super Bowl LVIII is just around the corner. The battle between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Fransisco 49ers is billed as the biggest sporting spectacle of the year. Such is the excitement that ticket prices were already at a premium. So when NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley learned of the current ticket prices, it drew the choicest words out of him.
Tickets to the Super Bowl were already scarce even before the two teams won their respective Divisional Championship games. The Super Bowl has always been an expensive affair. But Barkley did not have an idea until now. Barkley was speaking with host Ernie Johnson on the podcast The Steam Room hosted on TNT. When he asked producer Tim Kiely what the current ticket prices were, Kiely replied saying they were between $6,300 to $44,000. Hearing this brought out a sarcastic smile from Barkley and he replied:
I don't give a damn how much money you got! If you pay $44,000 to go to the Super Bowl, you a damn fool and an idiot.Charles Barkley said
Barkley could not comprehend that the ticket prices for the game were so high. High enough even for a millionaire like him.
What Barkley does not realize is that these are prices for tickets in the stands. Gallery and suite prices go into seven figures. The NFL sells out most tickets even before the Divisional rounds are completed. Such is the demand for the game. Fans line up in long queues to purchase Super Bowl tickets, despite the high prices.
Charles Barkley knows that the Super Bowl is a spectacle. He also knows that fans are willing to pay the price to get an all-in-one experience. The knowledge that Super Bowl 1 tickets sold for $12 added to the surprise for Barkley.
The NFL’s Super Bowl LVIII is poised to be a spectacle
This is the 58th edition of the yearly classic. The game between the Chiefs and the 49ers is billed to be a great battle. Grammy Award-winning artist Usher will perform during the Super Bowl Halftime show. This is other than the usual marching band performances, Air Force performances, etc.
The Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, home of the Las Vegas Raiders, will host the Super Bowl. The visit to Sin City adds to the spectacle. Last year’s Super Bowl recorded the highest viewership of all time for a yearly show. All that builds up the game as a true spectacle.
Charles Barkley loves football as a sport. But the prices of tickets were beyond his comprehension. Even when it is the most-watched show in sports in America.
