Chet Holmgren, the Rookie who cooked Stephen Curry
Stephen Curry has dismembered his critics, obliterated every hurdle on his way and has led the path for Golden State to rise from its ashes to the their rightful throne. The Golden State Warriors are NBA champions after coming away with a 103-90 victory over the Boston Celtics in Game 6 of the NBA Finals at TD Garden on last Thursday night. Grabbing his first NBA Finals MVP, Curry has established himself as one of the All Time Greats, possibly even Top 10 All-time. However, even the Chef can get cooked by a ‘bigger’ sous-chef, which is what Chet Holmgren did to him a couple of years ago.

The 2022 NBA Draft came with expectations and seemed to break them all, with talent bubbling from the young guns in the draft. Paolo Banchero took the No. 1 overall pick after the Orlando Magic selected him to kick off the draft, while Chet Holmgren and Jabari Smith closed out the top 3. Promised to the Top 3 of the Draft 2022, Chet Holmgren did not take the fact of being selected behind Paolo Banchero badly. On the contrary, he was rather delighted with this news.
Being the 2nd overall pick, there are huge expectations out of Chet Holmgren. Many talent evaluators called him the most talented star in this years pool. He is 7ft tall and is among the potential big men of the league. While the video reflects his attacking skill, he is primarily known for his defense. Two years ago, Holmgren attended Under Amour’s camp, spotlighting some of the best young talent. That was when his popularity exploded, after the young big man crossed over the Warriors talisman Stephen Curry, during a friendly five-on-five exhibition. From there, Holmgren became a viral sensation in the world of social media.
Holmgren has the ability to become a special player, especially if he fills out his frame with more muscle in the future. The 7’1 Holmgren finds himself in a great landing spot with the OKC Thunder, who continue to construct an impressive roster of talent. The 20 year old has been criticized for his lean frame, however, he makes up for it by his dominant plays inside then paint. The big man hit the two-time MVP with a nasty behind-the-back move before slashing to the rim for a poster dunk.
Shooting over double-teams from the logo, crossing people over and shooting beyond half court, step backs under pressure, runners off one leg from 35 feet, simply the greatest display of shooting we’ve ever seen! In the end, Curry, once again, led the way for Golden State on the offensive end. He finished the series-clinching win with a team-high 34 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, adding yet another chapter to his already storied career. Even he might have appreciated what a talent Holmgren is at camp !
