“Stephen Curry is significantly younger than LeBron, he’ll take care of his body” Chiney Ogwumike believes Stephen Curry is surely in his prime, prior to an intense Game 3
Stephen Curry is still a force to reckon with, says Chiney Ogwumike
Warning! If any defense in the league was celebrating Stephen Curry being past his prime, you will be in drowned by his 3’s, as the 2-time MVP is showing no signs of stopping. The 3-point God descended on the court and mesmerized us with his divine shooting ability, setting an NBA Finals record in the 1st quarter of Game 1 itself. Golden State don’t give up, they conquer, which is what they did as they defended their home court in an emphatic 107-88 victory against the Eastern Conference Champions, Boston Celtics, to tie the series going into Boston, with Stephen Curry leading the way.
The score at halftime was 52-50 in favor of the Warriors, with the Celtics snapping at their heels. The 3rd quarter began , and so did the decimation by the Warriors, as they were spearheaded by their ‘Achilles’, Stephen Curry. It was absolute carnage at the Chase Centre as Curry put on a show and Poole topped it off with a jaw-dropping 3 pointer. Steph Curry led the way for Golden State with 29 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists, while Jordan Poole added 17 points off of the bench. The Warriors forced 18 Boston turnovers and they scored 33 points off of those turnovers, which was a big factor in the outcome of the game.
Jayson Tatum paced the Celtics with 28 points and 6 rebounds, with 21 of those coming in the first half itself. However, his production wasn’t enough as only two other Celtics players scored in double figures. Jaylen Brown added 17 for the Celtics, but fought through a 5-for-17 shooting night, and Derrick White scored 12.Now, the series shifts to Boston for Games 3 and 4.

“This is a guy whose averaging about double his teammates” – Stephen Curry is very much at his best says Chiney Ogwumike
There was a lot of speculation about where Golden State will be at the end of this NBA season, after suffering their worst couple of years in recent history. People forget that ‘Warriors’ is their name, a part of who they are, as Poole found his groove, Klay made a comeback after being out for 2.5 years, and Curry, well he the Chef has deep fried all his opponents. Steph Curry is playing alongside some great teammates, so averaging double of them is astounding. 63 points in 2 Games, against the best drilled defensive side, what’s there to suggest Steph is not at the peak of his powers ?
During a recent segment on NBA Today, the panelists seemed to agree with that view. Chiney Ogwumike went a step further in her assessment of why Curry is still at his best, with all panelists unanimously bowing to Curry’s greatness.
“Can we say hell yeah? Like he is for sure in his prime. I think we are starting to see, especially with how science is moving, you know LeBron James playing late into his career. He’s only 34 years old, he’s significantly years younger than LeBron, he knows how to take care of his body because of his first year”
“His first few years were tough, and so he had to figure it out early and he’s been able to maintain that. Remember the conversation was a lot about his conditioning and building up muscle at the beginning of the year. That pays off right now in the postseason and the NBA finals, and this is a guy whose averaging about double his teammates.“
“So overall, this is the quintessential leader that you can see. Like, that’s why it, didn’t Adam Silver, as you mentioned, say, “Hey, it’s great when the Warriors are in the NBA finals.” This is the reason why Steph is showing you that he’s in his prime. He’s a voice and he’s really mature throughout this experience” Chiney Ogwumike was all praises for the Baby Faced Assassin, including how he has trained his body to adapt to physicality after suffering ankle issues, early on in his career.
“I’m really working on my body, making sure I can withstand the physicality. At this stage of my career, that’s a big piece of me being efficient. It has nothing to do with my shooting.” Steph said last month. LeBron James has established a prototype for body management that players across sports are implementing.
Given Steph Curry’s injury history early in his career, it’s clear that scientific advancements have kept Curry’s body healthy. This is a man who has spent most of his life hearing that he was too skinny to prosper at the college level, much less the NBA. Even with age creeping up on Curry, the smart move is to commit to containing him, as his shooting prowess needs no introduction.
If the basketball world has learned anything from Stephen Curry’s legendary 13 NBA seasons beyond his wizardry, that is nurturing a generation to awe at his ridiculous skillset. For without doubters, naysayers and haters, Curry wouldn’t have a Warriors career with eight All-Star Game appearances, three championship rings and two MVP awards. Probably wouldn’t be in the league. They inspire him more than any coach, teammate, opponent, personal trainer or multi-million dollar contract.
Beware of the Splash Brothers Boston. The Warriors will be content to go to Boston tied at 1-1, however, in the words of the legendary Kobe Bryant, “Job’s Not Finished”. All is not lost for Boston, the Celtics need to only win their remaining home games to become champions, though that won’t be easy against a Warriors team that has won at least one road game in an NBA-record 26 consecutive playoff series. Things are getting serious, it’s going to go down the wire, as the armies battle it out in Michigan, who will emerge with the NBA Trophy, prepare to be entertained as Game 3 comes up, and bring an umbrella Steph loves to ‘splash’ the ball a lot.
