Friendly fire is not seen anywhere these days but somehow found its way in the Lakers camp, former Los Angeles Clippers guard Patrick Beverley made some surprising comments on LeBron James and Anthony Davis. In response to such remarks, Chris Broussard explained why this may not have been the greatest decision.
Patrick Beverley’s signing with the Los Angeles Lakers has been a contentious one. Beverley has developed a reputation in Los Angeles as a result of his relationship with the organization and Russell Westbrook with whom he had a major rivalry since 2013 and has had multiple on court altercations with.
Patrick Beverley’s comments
The Los Angeles Lakers had a very forgettable campaign last season with winning 33 games and losing 49, the lakers were only a shadow of their 2019-20 season self, they couldn’t make it to the playoffs after a loss to the Phoenix Suns in their final game. The franchise saw an injury laden squad with Lebron James and Anthony Davis staying injured for most part of their campaign and Russell Westbrook the wonderchild of the team couldn’t do any magic either to save the ship from sinking
The lakers are training hard in order to exorcise the ghosts of the previous seasons however one of their own was seen rubbing salt in to their wounds, normally one would expect the Celtics or Clippers to take jabs owing to their fierce rivalry however the newest recruit on the team, Patrick Beverley fired shots on the team and proved how he’s a clipper at heart.
Beverley revealed a part of himself at his first press conference that he rarely shows in interviews. When asked what it will be like to play with James and Davis, his reaction was simple yet savage “They’re gonna be playing with me. I made the playoffs last year, they didn’t. It’s a difference.” Patrick Beverley’s response was both direct and genuine. While the comment may be seen as an attempt to rouse the Lakers’ superstars, Chris Broussard had a different take.
Speaking on “First Things First,” Broussard explained why he thought Beverley’s comments were inappropriate. While the analyst began by expressing his support for Beverley’s inclusion, he swiftly addressed the statement, saying: “This quote was asinine. And if I’m LeBron James and Anthony Davis, I’m feeling some kind of way. Now, ultimately they’ll have to laugh it off and not worry about it.” He continued “This is ridiculous! Michael Jackson did not GET to sing with Tito, okay? Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen did not GET to play with BJ Armstrong, it’s the other way around. This is ridiculous. This is the epitome of not knowing your lane.”
