“Magic Johnson would’ve had to wear that ‘Tragic Johnson’ reputation had he not come back to win 3 championships” Chris Broussard sides with Charles Barkley saying Kevin Durant has a lot to prove
Chris Broussard and Kevin Durant
NBA on TNT panel member and former MVP Charles Barkley raised a major issue when he questioned the legacy of Kevin Durant after Nets suffered a humiliating clean sweep via the hand of Boston Celtics. With KD firing back at the veteran, the floor was open for debate and First Things First’s host Chris Broussard could not keep himself away from opinionating upon the same matter.
Interestingly, Broussard decided to side along with Charles Barkley stating that Kevin Durant has plenty to prove even after winning multiple championships with the Golden State Warriors. Asserting the same point, the former elaborated upon how Kevin Durant has himself to point for having to develop the need to emphasize upon his legacy by joining Brooklyn alongside Kyrie Irving.
Chris Broussard on Kevin Durant and his legacy
To support his argument, Broussard cited the example of a young Magic Johnson winning the championship alongside the great Kareem Abdul Jabbar. He exclaimed how important was it for Magic to comeback and deliver championship to proclaim himself as one of the greatest ever. He went onto cite the example of LeBron James as well, that only until he led his team(s) towards the silverware, was he considered one of the greatest ever.
“The asterisks were there because he was not the ‘bus driver,’ alright. And until he is the bus driver somewhere as he is in Brooklyn and wins a championship, Kevin Durant’s going to have to wear that.
“Magic Johnson would have had to wear the ‘Tragic Johnson’ reputation, had he not come back and won three championships. LeBron James would have had to wear the ‘Dallas in 2011’ reputation, had he not come back and won four championships.
“And Kevin Durant, you know it’s not a bad rep to wear – you won two titles, you were Finals MVP. But don’t walk around like you were the bus driver on that team. You gotta go prove you can lead a team to it.”
Surely KD has been shown the mirror and consequences of losing out in the first round series itself. Has Durant made a mistake by leaving the Warriors, Curry and Thompson by joining Nets to elaborate upon his legacy? Surely there are going to be plenty of opinions coming on the same in the coming hours.
