“When the game was in balance. Bron was nowhere” Chris Broussard suggests LeBron James’ 31-point performance was impact less vs Warriors
Chris Broussard and Lebron James
Despite LeBron James’ great stats, the Los Angeles Lakers were annihilated by the Golden State Warriors in each team’s season-opening. LA kept the game close in the first half but were completely exposed in the second. Chris Broussard of “The Odd Couple” podcast dismissed James’ prodigious stats in the Lakers’ blowout loss
“LeBron had 31 [points], 14 [rebounds] and 8 [assists] and had zero impact on the game! I wanna watch a few weeks of these before I declare LeBron’s no longer a top 10 player in the league. Last night, he didn’t look like a top-10 player to me. When the game was in the balance, he was nowhere.” He added, “He was pacing himself, he wasn’t doing much at times cause of his age. And obviously, he’s not defending as he once did.”
LeBron James nearly recorded a double-double in the first half, scoring 14 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and dishing out three assists. They along with Anthony Davis kept the reigning champions within striking reach. During that time, Russell Westbrook added 11 points and six rebounds.
LeBron James and co suffer defeat on the opening night
On opening night, the Los Angeles Lakers hoped to damper the Golden State Warriors‘ ring celebration. Instead, they left licking their wounds following a 123-109 loss. In the game, the Lakers shot only 43% from the field and 10-of-40 from long range. LeBron James ended with 31 points, 14 rebounds, and eight assists, but he only hit three of his ten three-point attempts.
Russell Westbrook scored a double-double (19 points, 11 rebounds), but he only made one 3-point attempt. Anthony Davis finished with 27 points and six rebounds but failed to connect from deep on any of his three tries. In addition to their poor long-range shooting, the Los Angeles Lakers committed 21 turnovers in the contest.
Last season, the Los Angeles Lakers shot 34.7 percent from deep, placing among the lowest ten teams in the league. If they keep up their poor 3-point shooting from opening night, they might end up in the bottom half of this category once more. In his post-game press conference, LeBron James addressed this element of the LA Lakers’ team composition. He stated: “We’re getting great looks, but it could also be teams giving us great looks. I mean, if you be completely honest, we’re not a team that is constructed of great shooting. That’s just the truth of the matter”
