Phoenix Suns star guard Chris Paul took the control of the game when he saw his teammates lacking during the last quarter against the New Orleans Pelicans in game 1 of the series on Sunday night.

The games between both the Suns and Pelicans seemed one-sided for Phoenix until New Orleans started getting their engines on run in the fourth quarter of the game. Despite a slow start the Pelican managed to cut a 23-point deficit to just 8 points when the third quarter ended. The matchup begins to go in the favor of the Pelicans but the Suns’ messiah arrived at the time for their rescue.

Paul scored 19 points in the last quarter which led the Suns to their first victory of the postseason by 110-99 over the New Orleans Pelicans. In the end, the Suns’ guard was 30 points with 10 assists and 7 rebounds he was brilliant from the field goal and made 12 of 16. He also shot some crucial three-pointers in the game and was 4 of 6.

In the postgame conference Suns coach, Monty Williams described Paul’s performance as “Classic Chris.” When the 37-year-old was asked about his gameplay, Paul said, “It’s just reading the game, we watch games all day, every day. We got to watch all the games yesterday. We watched the games today. We know in the playoffs; teams aren’t going to lay down.”

Suns’ point guard got a lot of support from his teammate Devin Booker who was the second lead scorer with 25 points, eight assists, and four rebounds. The Suns’ shooting guard praised Chris Paul for his gameplay and explained why he deserves to win the championship.

The 25-year-old said, “That man’s a true competitor, a true winner, he wants it that bad. You can see it in his demeanor, you can see it in his walk. It shouldn’t surprise anybody. He’s built for these moments.”

Paul has never won the NBA championship in his career and fell short last year when the Bucks snatched the victory from their hands. In this season the Suns led by Chris are ready to grab their chance as they were the most successful team during the regular season. It will be interesting to watch how this series ends will the pelicans get any chance to dominate or the Suns will wipe them out.
