The Phoenix Suns faced a blowout defeat in Game 7 of the Western Conference Semifinals to the Dallas Mavericks. With the abrupt ending of their season and an end of hopes of possibly getting a second-chance at winning their first title, questions and rumors were raised on Chris Paul and his retirement. Other than physical and mental fatigue, the Suns had nothing left to give in into series. They did everything they could to challenge the Mavericks and win the series, but fatigue probably got the batter of them, and that showed when they lost by 33 points at home

Chris Paul quashes retirements rumors
After the disappointing game, the ‘Point God’ addressed the media and spoke about the loss and his future. The future of Chris Paul stands a big question mark in the league. He is 37 years old and in his 17th season, heading for 18th. It is known to all that the veteran point guard is at a stage where he will be retiring sooner than later.
“Just a tough game. All season long, we tried to lean on our defense and tonight our defense wasn’t there, our offense wasn’t there either, so I think Coach said a lot of it you know what I mean. You play all season to be in this situation and it didn’t work out for us,”Paul replied in regards to the Suns’ Game 7 loss to Dallas.
Chris Paul seemed to be on fire coming into the series. He had created history in the previous series by dropping a perfect 14/14 from the field. To follow it up, in the first two games of the Western Conference Semi-finals, he had scored a total of 47 points and 11 total assists while mere 4 turnovers. The impressive feat was followed up by hardships in the rest of the series.
From his birthday, May 6, Paul averaged just 9.4 points, 5.8 assists and turned the ball over an average of 3.6 times per game in the series against Dallas Mavericks. And Dallas capitalized on each fallout.
Chris Paul has been through a lot in his career and is definitely nearing the end of the line. However, the future first ballot Hall-of-Fame has already seemed to make up his mind against a possible retirement.
“They said that last year. They probably said it back in ’08,” Paul said in response to being asked if this was his best opportunity to win a title. “You know, you play long enough and you don’t win, every time you lose they’re gonna say it was your best chance, but I think for me, us, is we’ll be right back next year tell you that much. I’m not retiring tomorrow.”
After 17 years in the league, Chris Paul has averaged 14.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 10.8 assists. In his career, he has been an All-Star 12 different times . He has lead the league in assists for four different seasons and has been named to the All-NBA list ten different times, possibly even eleven different after this postseason concludes. He is regarded as one of the smartest players to play the game, and that is evident from his shot choice and passes. Paul has done everything one can as an elite point guard but unfortunately he has not won a title.
Heading into the offseason, Paul will be entering his 18th season in the NBA and third with the Phoenix Suns.
