Chris Paul injury update: BAD NEWS for Suns before Game 5 in Denver
The Phoenix Suns provided an injury update on their star Chris Paul who has been out since Game 3.
Chris Paul injures himself
The Western Conference semifinal series between the Phoenix Suns and the Denver Nuggets has been an intense back-and-forth affair. The Suns, who trailed 0-2, came through on their home stand and the series is now tied at 2-2. They’ve done this without their superstar point guard Chris Paul, who has been out with a groin injury since Game 3.
Paul picked up his injury in the third quarter of Game 2 of the series against the Nuggets. With about four and a half minutes remaining in the quarter, Paul and Nuggets’ Kentavious Caldwell-Pope tangled up while competing for a rebound. This caused Paul to clutch his groin in pain and exit the game with an injury. He left the game with eight points, six assists, and five rebounds in 25 minutes and did not return to the court.
Paul missed the Suns’ Game 3 and 4 wins, and the latest update from the franchise is that the veteran point guard will not play in Game 5 against the Nuggets. Paul’s initial MRI Scan suggested the same and indicated that the player would be out of Games 3-5. The Suns have managed to ease some pressure off their shoulders by equalizing the series, though such news is a reason to worry.
Paul’s absence from the series further indicates deeper trouble lies ahead for the Suns. While Paul might not be at the peak of his career, he still is an important player in the squad. Paul, 37, has been a crucial contributor for the Suns in the playoffs so far. He has averaged 12.4 points, five rebounds, and 7.4 assists and shot 41.8% from the field.

Chris Paul set to miss Game 5 vs. Nuggets
While the Suns have won both games without Paul against the Nuggets, it’s hard to overstate his importance. He is in his third year with the franchise and has helped the squad reach the NBA Finals in 2021. Losing their starting point guard is a terrible sign for the Suns’ side, who have struggled with ball movement. Paul was a facilitator for other stars on the squad like Kevin Durant, DeAndre Ayton, and Devin Booker.
The Suns will have to continue coping with his absence and facing a monster in Nikola Jokic, who scored, a career-high, 53 points in Game 4 in Phoenix. Kevin Durant and Devin Booker have managed to step up and carry the burden for the team to secure wins. While these wins might not be the prettiest, ending with really close margins, they still count.
Game 5 between the Suns and the Nuggets goes down tomorrow in the Ball Arena. Watch the game to find out who breaks the gridlock and inches closer to attaining a series victory.
