“Not many people I hate on this earth more than Doc Rivers” – Clippers fans SLAM former head coach for unbelievable comments about LA’s roster under him
Doc Rivers came under brutal fire for ridiculous comments about the Clippers’ roster, shots fired by fans across the world.
Coach Doc Rivers
Current Philadelphia 76ers and ex-LA Clippers coach Doc Rivers came under fire on social media for surprising comments on his ex-team. During an appearance on NBA Today, Rivers, reflecting on his time coaching the Clippers, said he realized why the franchise couldn’t win the NBA title under his tutelage. He claimed the team’s lack of unity was a critical reason why they were unlikely to succeed. He expressed that their inability to establish strong rapport was a significant factor in their failure to win the Championship.
Rivers completely credited their inability to work together as a team as the reason for their failure. This didn’t come as a surprise, considering all the feuds that went down during Rivers’ tenure. What surprised people, though, was for coach Rivers to say that the team “would never win.”
Doc Rivers’ comments on the LA team have reignited a long-running debate, questioning his ability as a coach. One criticism of Rivers is that he tends to favor star players and does not hold them accountable enough. This was particularly evident during his time with the Clippers, where some analysts suggested that he did not do enough to challenge the team’s star players or create a culture of accountability.
Clippers fans neither warmed up to Rivers during his tenure as their team’s head coach nor do they appreciate him now. But Rivers’ comments regarding the Clippers have made people dislike him more.
Clippers fans SLAM Doc Rivers on Twitter
Doc Rivers was the head coach of the LA Clippers between 2013-2020, during which the team reached playoffs six times. Despite consistently making the postseason, the team never reached the NBA Finals or won a championship. Per Rivers, the reason for that was the lack of chemistry and unity in the team. The Clippers had some of the best talents during this period, be it the Lob City trio of Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan, or the dangerous duo of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. Despite this, the team never got their hands at the title.
Unlike Doc Rivers, fans believe the reason for the team’s lack of success was his leadership style. There were rifts in the team like reports of a physical altercation between Griffin and assistant equipment manager Matias Testi. And even Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan’s publicized feud over the center’s decision to sign with the Dallas Mavericks in free agency. But all this wasn’t substantial in ruining the team’s unity.
Let us now look at what Clippers fans had to say about Doc Rivers’ comments on the team.
Twitter was rife with Doc Rivers slander after his comments about why the Clippers failed to win a title under him. Fans unanimously blamed the veteran head coach for the team’s lack of playoff success. It will be interesting to see how the Philadelphia 76ers perform in the playoffs with Rivers running the show.
