“Every nightclub needs a bouncer” Colin Cowherd believes $60 Million star’s value in Warriors is indisputable
Colin Cowherd talks about Golden State Warriors and Draymond Green
Golden State Warriors won the 2022 NBA Title with strong performances from their star players. The only player who was criticized during their championship run was Draymond Green. The former DPOY did not shine as he used to as had mediocre stats in most of the series. Even then Draymond has been one of the most valuable assets on the Golden State Warriors roster. Green has cemented himself as a versatile player. It’s part of the reason why the Warriors have been able to win 4 Titles with their formidable core. This even made Colin Cowherd acknowledge the importance of the 32-year-old.
According to recent reports, Green is hoping to sign a max extension with Golden State. Moreover, he is set to make $25.8 million this coming season and is even due $27.5 million for 2023-24, but has a player option clause. So, Green can decline it and become a free agent next summer. So the maximum extension Draymond Green could sign starting next week involves him opting out of the final year of his current deal and signing a four-year extension worth $138.4 million. It would hamper the Warriors’ plan as they would be over the Cap limit once again.
But analyst Cowherd thinks otherwise. On “The Herd,” analyst Colin Cowherd said he believes Green’s value to the Warriors is “indisputable.” Highlighting Green’s importance in the Warriors’ team, Cowherd said, “Draymond Green is the Warriors, and he allows them to be a lot of things. … His value to the Warriors is indisputable. Every nightclub needs a bouncer. Every finesse team needs a tough guy.” … The Warriors defense is as good as any in the league, dating back to Tim Duncan’s Spurs in 2004 when he’s on the floor.”
Draymond Green is an Asset for the Golden State Warriors as per Colin Cowherd
Former Michigan State player was the 35th overall pick for the Warriors back in 2012, but after just 11 seasons in the league, he helped his team win 4 NBA titles and even won the defensive player of the season award marking his identity in the league. He might be the best 2nd round pick any team would have hoped for and achieved nearly everything that much 1st rounders dreamt of.
On the Offensive end, Draymond Green is more of a facilitator who can chip in with 10 odd points to surprise opponents. But his impact on both sides of the floor cannot be overstated. Green has become one of the league’s top defensive players and holds the Warriors’ defense together. His determination and basketball IQ have set the tone for the Warriors over the years.
While his contract extension is making huge buzz around the league, analyst Colin cowherd gives his insight to help the Warriors make a decision. He said, “In the 45 games Draymond was on the floor for the Warriors, it was the best defense analytically in 18 years. When Draymond was not on the floor in the regular season, they were 13th in the league. He has a 7.1 net rating that is higher than Steph’s and Klay’s.”
Adding to the stats, Cowherd mentioned the impact of Draymond Green on the Warriors’ –court-plans, “Green is the most annoying defender in the league. But unlike Rodman, he can be a catalyst offensively. He lets Steph run all over the floor; he lets Klay not always guard the best 3. He gives this organization freedom.”
Green has been the heart and soul of the Warriors throughout his career. With other star performers like Andrew Wiggins, Klay Thompson, and Jordan Poole nearing contract extensions, the Warriors will have to get creative concerning which pieces they want to keep around. With the Warriors continuing to develop an impressive roster of talent, some difficult choices will be on the horizon.
