“He has to learn from LeBron, Kobe, Duncan and Steph” Colin Cowherd believes Kevin Durant has to become a leader to get a ring with his own team

“He has to learn from LeBron, Kobe, Duncan and Steph” Colin Cowherd believes Kevin Durant has to become a leader to get a ring with his own team

Kevin Durant and Colin Cowherd

Whether deliberately or not, Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant‘s legacy has been criticized due to his poor postseason performance with teams other than the Golden State Warriors, the reigning champs. In 2016, Durant departed the OKC Thunder to join a Warriors squad that had previously advanced to consecutive NBA Finals. After years of struggle, he immediately won two consecutive championships while playing for Golden State, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

Colin Cowherd said he believes Kevin Durant has gotten tired of the unpredictable Kyrie Irving this week on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd”. Irving was allegedly pursued by Durant to move to Brooklyn as a free agent in the summer of 2019 and the two are said to be close. But after a season in which Irving participated in just 29 games—the majority of which he missed because he refused to be vaccinated for COVID—and a first-round playoff elimination, Cowherd thinks Durant may be done having Irving as his partner.

Are we seeing the decline of Kevin Durant?

When everything is said and done, Kevin Durant will be remembered as one of the NBA’s most prolific scorers. He is one of those basketball players with an offensive force mentality that can only be effectively guarded by praying for a miss. The Brooklyn Nets star has always been a cheat code: tall, long-legged, with an 88.8-inch wingspan who plays like a shooting guard but ut\ it appears that KD has now been easily disrupted.

Even if they are aged, superstars like Durant don’t suddenly start to lose their sharpness. Kevin needs to concentrate on whatever  Brooklyn wishes him to become, a defender or a facilitator, both of which he is more than capable of accomplishing. Durant’s resume is a big one compared to other superstars of his generation in which he has played 14 seasons in the NBA for the Thunder, Warriors and Nets. He has averaged 27.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 939 regular-season games. He is a 11 time All-Star, 10 time All-NBA and a 4-time scoring champion. He has won the Rookie of the Year award, an MVP award, 2 NBA championships and 2 Finals MVP award along the way.

Colin Cowherd on Kevin Durant’s legacy after Warriors exit

KD’s move to the Brooklyn Nets in the hopes of forming a superteam with Kyrie Irving hasn’t gone according to plan. On his show, Colin Cowherd identified one element that Durant’s approach was lacking and that may help him get past it in the future: “All four dynasties had the big guy at the top: Steph, LeBron, Kobe and Duncan. All four were totally unique personalities, totally unique games, but all four were leaders in their own way. That’s what KD has to graduate to” Cowherd stated on his podcast.

Generational athletes like Steph Curry, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Tim Duncan were the undisputed leaders of their respective championship squads. They created some of the most successful teams in recent history largely because of the standards they expected their teammates to fulfill. Cowherd thinks that Durant’s extraordinary basketball skills should be compared to his undisputed leadership skills for his team.

During the Kyrie Irving controversy last season, a number of basketball critics questioned Kevin Durant’s ability to lead his team. While it is debatable if KD needs to develop his leadership abilities, the “Slim Reaper” will also want more from Ben Simmons and Kyrie Irving if he remains.
