“His father died…he got his a** kicked” Colin Cowherd believes Michael Jordan lost a lot professionally and personally whilst becoming America’s beloved sports icon
If there is one man who changed the course of basketball all around the globe, it was Chicago Bulls’ legend Michael Jordan. From witnessing his father being murdered to ending the dominance of Detroit Pistons, Michael Jordan was always one the front. This is the primary reason why he managed to become American’s most loved sporting icon as per sports media personality, Colin Cowherd.
Fans have seen Celtics and Pistons man-handling Jordan while His Airness rose to the occasion to become the greatest ever. Having not lost once in the NBA Finals, Jordan’s supremacy needs no introduction. But his immense struggle and passion to become the greatest ever had moved each and every American to the core. Moreover, Cowherd believes that fans saw each inch of MJ in its truest form and that is the exact reason why he is the most influential sporting icon.
Michael Jordan love-affair with American sporting fans
Colin Cowherd, on his podcast, stated that Jordan’s on-court and off-court struggles allowed fans to identify themselves with the basketball superstar. He said, “Michael Jordan, we watched the Pistons tackle him, Isiah Thomas wouldn’t shake his hand. We watched the Celtics tackle him, we watched the death of his father, we watched the ‘Comeback,’ we watched the ‘Flu Game.’
“And then we watched the documentary where he’s fighting with his general manager. I think a big part of the Michael Jordan love is he got his a** kicked a lot and he lost a lot, personally and professionally. Makes Michael so much easier to embrace.”
Having entered the NBA when fans only knew the wrath of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, Jordan had to work his way to the top. It is indeed safe to urge that the dubbed Chicago’s savior, the North Carolina superstar carried the massive expectations of a success-starved city on his skinny shoulders. That being said, the reason why Michael Jordan is proclaimed to be the GOAT of NBA is not because of his Finals (6-0) record, but because he never stopped believing and leading his team in any situation.
