“Grumpy, sensitive guy isn’t getting shots” Colin Cowherd believes Warriors fans absolutely don’t want Kevin Durant back
Kevin Durant
The basketball world was shocked by the sudden inclusion of Brooklyn Nets star man Kevin Durant in the trade discussions. The 2x NBA Finals MVP requested to move away from his current franchise, citing uncertainty over other players’ futures at Brooklyn. One of the NBA’s most lethal two-way players, Durant has the ability to transform a team into an immediate contender overnight. But for Brooklyn, he is too hard to move with the hefty trade value associated with the player. Colin Cowherd weighs in by negating his possible return to the Golden State Warriors.
The Warriors team was not on Durant’s list altogether, rather he listed the Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns as his preferred destinations. But landing KD won’t be that easy for any of those franchises, especially with the Brooklyn Nets having the major say on the deal. There are plenty of other teams knocking at the door for the chance to acquire Durant, but they might not have the “required” trade package for Slim Reaper. Maybe two or more teams can construct some favorable package that sends KD to one of the teams. Many have even speculated that Durant’s former team, the Golden State Warriors, would have the potential to offer the best trade package if they wish to do so.
A reunion of Kevin Durant and the Golden State Warriors is unlikely to happen
Back in the 2017 pre-season, Kevin Durant elected to play for Golden State Warriors and won back-to-back titles with them. He was Finals MVP on both occasions in a talented squad. But he left the Bay Area for his ‘own’ superteam. And now after 3-failed seasons, KD is looking for a new scenario again.
Analyst Colin Cowherd said he isn’t buying that the Warriors would be willing to have a potential reunion with Durant. As per the analyst, it could be damaging to numerous factors and the realization that some would be “walking on eggshells.”. “Grumpy, sensitive guy isn’t getting shots, and Steve Kerr is walking on eggshells, Steph Curry is walking on eggshells,” Cowherd said.
The Golden State Warriors have all the pieces to land 4-time scoring champion. They have All-Star in their ranks, and young prospects to entice Brooklyn Nets. Hence many rumors have been floated around the Nets as the Warriors being strong contenders to acquire Kevin Durant. With Durant on the roster, the Warriors will be one of the league’s most dangerous teams again, as we’ve seen it work before with the current core, in the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
Currently, the Warriors have an intriguing amount of young pieces and developing them to star level would be their priority. It would be a thrilling development for fans, and also for the franchise’s future too. So the Warriors won’t be sending any of their young talents to the Nets for soon-to-be 34 Kevin Durant. That could be a major blockage for any possible trade and Durant might seek another franchise.
Though Durant couldn’t deliver a championship at Brooklyn, he has dealt with injuries over the last several seasons but is still a dominant force. Last season, Durant averaged 29.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game while shooting 51.8%, including 38.3% from 3-point range.
The Brooklyn Nets have reportedly been aggressive with their required trade demands to acquire a former MVP forward. With Durant under contract for another four years, Brooklyn can simply play the waiting game to see who presents the best offer. For now, the league will wait for a conclusion between Durant and the Nets organization.
