Stephen Curry has taken a lot of the blame for the Golden State Warriors‘ defeat in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. A number of NBA analysts have chastised the point guard for his team’s failure to win against the Boston Celtics. Colin Cowherd has defended him, claiming that he cannot be faulted after a 34-point performance. In the final minutes, Golden State’s foot slipped off the gas pedal, and the team was never able to regain its footing as the Celtics emerged victorious in Game 1 after a three point barrage from the squad.

Skip Bayless of Fox Sports shared his take on the Game 1 performance of former MVP of the league, Stephen Curry. With his irrational Curry outburst on Friday, Bayless did himself no favors, claiming that, “on the greatest stage, in the biggest situations, he has no clutch gene. I’ve seen that the best shooter in history is the best until the stakes are the highest, at which point he’s nothing near the best.”

Bayless’ onslaught on Curry comes at a strange moment, after Curry set a Finals single-quarter record by hitting six 3-pointers in the first 12 minutes. The Celtics’ defense, according to Bayless, is to credit for Curry’s lack of triples the rest of the way.

Stephen Curry’s second-half performance was praised by Shannon Sharpe, who said he needed more support from his teammates to get the club over the hump. “He needed Jordan Poole and Klay Thompson,” Sharpe added. “He didn’t get that last night. Cowherd argued that Curry would not be to responsible after establishing the Celtics’ defensive effectiveness as the Celtics were predicted to be a dangerous adversary after indicating their defensive prominence in the playoffs against the Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks and the Miami Heat.
