As the Los Angeles Clippers face elimination from the NBA playoffs, there is growing speculation that their star player Kawhi Leonard may have played his final game with the team. ESPN analysts Kendrick Perkins and Stephen A. Smith have been vocal in their criticism of Leonard, with Perkins suggesting that the team should blow up its roster if they cannot win with him and Paul George, and Smith going so far as to call Leonard one of the worst superstars ever.

Now, Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd has weighed in on the situation, calling the Leonard experiment a bad investment and saying that he would get rid of him if he were the team’s owner. Cowherd pointed to Leonard’s injury history and his reported lack of communication with coaches and teammates as reasons why he is not worth the risk.

“He’s just not available. He’s odd, he’s not verbal. He doesn’t communicate, I’ve been told, with coaches or players. This is who he is,” Cowherd said on his show.

Cowherd did not spare Paul George from his criticism but did say that he would prefer to keep him because he is a good communicator and invested in the team. However, he suggested that the Clippers need to make major changes if they want to compete for a championship.

The Clippers have had some success with Leonard and George in the lineup, but injuries have been a constant issue for both players. Leonard has played in just over half of the team’s regular season games since joining the Clippers, and missed the entire 2021-22 season with an ACL injury. His availability has been a major issue for the team, especially in the playoffs.

As the Clippers prepare for a do-or-die Game 5 against the Phoenix Suns, their future remains uncertain. Kawhi Leonard, the team’s best player, is out with a knee injury and there is no timetable for his return. His absence has been felt throughout the playoffs, as the Clippers have struggled to find consistent scoring and defensive presence without him on the court.

Leonard’s injury history and lack of availability have raised questions about his future with the team. He can opt out of his contract this offseason and become a free agent, and there have been rumors that he may be looking to leave Los Angeles.

If that happens, the Clippers could be forced to rebuild their roster around Paul George, who has played well in Leonard’s absence but has struggled to carry the team on his own. The team will need to regroup in the offseason and make some tough decisions about its future if it hopes to compete for a championship in the coming years.
