Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks have been left to suffer against the best-team of 2021-22 regular season, Phoenix Suns in their semi-final series. Having lost both their opening road games, Colin Cowherd has decided to slap the young Mavericks marquee with harsh reality only to let him know how the NBA works. Moreover, the sports media analyst went onto quote the example of veteran faces in the league.
Just how LeBron James, Kevin Durant are reported by agent their own teammates, be it right or wrong, Cowherd stated Luka Doncic needs to do the same in order to contest for the championship. “You also need Luka to do something that it’s quite possible international stars don’t feel comfortable doing, getting on the phone and recruiting a player,” Cowherd said. “LeBron does it. KD does it. Steph does it. That’s the NBA model.”
Cowherd also pointed out how Luka Doncic “hated” his former teammate Kristaps Porzingis. He believes that Luka has to be better and he has to make more of an effort to “make it work.”
To think about how Chris Paul has changed the complexion of Phoenix Suns having joined forces with Devin Booker, it does feel like Cowherd here makes a strong point. Doncic often stands out as one of the leading scorers in the league, yet the Mavericks are not able to run deep into the playoffs? Maybe it indeed time for Mark Cuban’s team to bring in a charismatic marquee scorer to feature alongside Luka Magic.
But for now, all eyes will be on Game 3 of Suns vs Mavs, and whether the home team could now finally register a win against their name in this particular semi-final series.
