“KD is being lumped in as high maintenance” Colin Cowherd sympathizes with Kevin Durant for being unfairly treated in the trade market
Kevin Durant and Colin Cowherd
Brooklyn Nets and Kevin Durant are struggling to find appropriate trade partners, even after 1 month of making the news public. On 30th June, Durant’s trade request spread like wildfire, with several teams looking to initially make the first move. As per reports, Miami Heat and Phoenix suns were KD’s choices going ahead. Brooklyn Nets were looking for profitable trade for the former MVP, yet the trade rumors surrounding Kevin Durant have reportedly started to slow down. Analyst Colin Cowherd thinks that’s so because he is unfairly grouped with the league’s high-maintenance guys.
Since Durant requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets, many teams were considered to be in contention for the talented forward. But the Nets’ steep asking price fends most of them. It is unclear why teams are not jumping at the thought of getting arguably the league’s best scorer. Cowherd gave an insight, saying some executives have classed KD as a “high maintenance athlete” and won’t risk much for soon to be a 34-year-old sharpshooter.
On his show, “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” the analyst talked about how Durant is being seen as a diva, calling it unfair. He also pointed out that KD’s work rate and commitment are never in question, regardless of the situation or team he played for so far.
Colin Cowherd defends Price for Kevin Durant
The Washington-born megastar has a very illustrious resume. The 2008 Rookie of the year won the scoring title 4-times and was also named regular season MVP In 2014. He did move to Golden State Warriors for a shot at a Championship and delivered back-to-back titles, winning Finals MVP awards in the process. Entering his 16th season (15 playings) He holds the best scoring average among the active players in the league.
So it is quite obvious that the Nets were expecting a great return for their prized asset. But the Market seems reluctant to bridge the gap. Analyst Cowherd explains the lack of interest in the Megastar, “The league is clearly pivoting. A lot of execs, too, were over the diva, high-maintenance guys. He’s being lumped in with Kyrie (Irving), (Ben) Simmons, (James) Harden, and (Russell) Westbrook.”
Counting on Slim reaper’s accomplishments and returns Cowherd continued, “29 a game, 52%, plays hard, plays defense, when he’s available physically, he gives you everything he has, and he is being lumped as like a Kyrie, Harden – declining, odd. And I’m like, he’s the best get a bucket guy in the league. I do think he has to break up with Kyrie. He gets lumped into that group, and I don’t think it’s fair.”
Maybe the 58-year-old analyst is correct in his scrutiny. Since the pandemic period, franchises have seen players like Kyrie Irving, Ben Simmons, John Wall, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden ruling over the decision-making. They even opt against playing if their decisions or views are not fulfilled.
Cowherd emphasizes the shift in the mentality of franchise owners as he said, “Kevin Durant, as the league is transitioning, a lot of execs are saying the Celtics are about culture, the Bucks are about culture, the Suns are about culture, the Warriors are about culture. Kevin Durant is being lumped in as high maintenance.”
Although Cowherd now believes it is unfair, he has previously said that Durant is high maintenance, at least compared to Steph Curry. Given how things have progressed, there is a chance KD will stay with Brooklyn. No team is ready to meet the Nets’ demands, meaning Durant might play the first of his four-year contract in Brooklyn. But he needs to win over the Nets fans again with some solid performances on the floor.
