“Completely sell out to him” – NBA analyst explains how LeBron James, Lakers can DISRUPT Stephen Curry
NBA Analyst Tim Legler Shares Lakers' Strategy to Disrupt Steph Curry's Game
NBA analyst Tim Legler recently spoke about the Los Angeles Lakers’ game plan against Golden State Warriors’ superstar, Steph Curry. According to Legler, the Lakers cannot beat the Warriors unless they intentionally disrupt Curry’s game. He suggested that the Lakers need to completely sell out to him to disrupt his rhythm and prevent him from operating with freedom.
Legler emphasized that it is not just about having better athletic ability upfront to provide rim protection. Instead, it is about following a specific game plan to prevent Curry from getting free and having a clear path to the ball. This involves guarding him on the high side and ensuring that every cut he makes is towards the baseline. Players need to make sure that he has to run through their bodies to come up off the baseline to get to the ball.
He said: “You have to completely sell out to him to disrupt his rhythm on his running routes, where he catches it, how he gets it…it’s almost what you have to do at this point.“
Legler praised the Lakers for executing this game plan well in the first half of their Game 1 against the Warriors. He particularly highlighted the efforts of Jarred Vanderbilt and Austin Reeves, who did an excellent job of following the game plan and disrupting Curry’s rhythm. However, he also pointed out that players like Troy Brown struggled to execute this plan and got beaten a couple of times by Curry.
Overall, Legler believes that the Lakers need to be very focused and attentive to details to disrupt Curry’s game. He suggested that they need to stick to this game plan for the entire series and not allow Curry to operate with freedom.

Lakers’ Game Plan Against Steph Curry Pays Off
In their most recent matchup with the Golden State Warriors, the Los Angeles Lakers successfully carried out their game plan. They interfered with Curry’s rhythm and limited his freedom of movement, which enabled the Lakers to take a major win.
The game plan was notably well-executed by Jarred Vanderbilt and Austin Reaves, who reduced Curry’s influence. They blocked Curry from escaping by making him go between their bodies in order to reach the ball. Curry struggled to find his rhythm and was unable to have a meaningful impact on the game.
Curry bringing the ball up was a tactical change Steve Kerr made for the Warriors, making it challenging for the Lakers to stop him. Due to being able to get a ball screen in the backcourt as a result, it was simpler for Curry to find space and fire shots. But by this time, the Lakers had already broken up his rhythm and reduced his influence on the game.
The Lakers’ win over the Warriors served as proof of the value of having a game plan and effectively carrying it out. They were able to minimise the influence of one of the finest players in the league and clinch an important victory. It will be interesting to see if they can implement this game strategy in future contests.
