Crazy stats suggest how badly Warriors star Draymond Green locked up Nikola Jokic, Nuggets
Nikola Jokic and Draymond Green
With Draymond Green finally getting a chance to enter the playoffs alongside both his ‘brothers’ Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Given that the Dubs have had a strong task on his hand, while contesting in the first-round series against the Denver Nuggets. Moreover, with Nikola Jokic in explosive form, the veteran guard knew how to stop the resilient Nuggets side from attacking.
An early win could make any particular team rise from the built-up pressure; Draymond Green ensured that his defensive presence haunted the opposition. Furthermore, another crazy stat suggests how badly did the former DPOY lock up Denver Nuggets in Game 1 of the first-round series.
Draymond Green leads Warriors from the defensive end vs Nuggets
As Kendra Andrews of ESPN highlighted, Green’s defense on Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets allowed the Warriors to take the 123-107 win. He limited Denver to 5-of-19 shooting as the primary defender, with much of his work focused on Nikola Jokic. The Joker shot 3-of-12 from the field when he was defended by Green.
It’s hard not to appreciate Draymond Green’s contributions for the Warriors, and his teammates know that. In fact, marquee scorer Thompson went as far as to calling him the best defender in the world after his brilliant showing on Saturday. Meanwhile, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr declared Green as a Hall of Famer and highlighted how important the 32-year-old forward is to the team.
Green certainly deserved those recognitions. And true enough, Golden State Warriors will need him to consistently anchor the defense and guard the opposing best player if they want any chance of returning to the NBA Finals.
That being said, Green would have to bring his A-defensive game in each game if the Dubs have any hopes of overcoming the big guns as the playoffs progressive. Especially with Nikola Jokic present in the other team, the threat from the paint will always loom over the opposition’s head. Who will come out on top in Game 2? Remains to be seen.
