In what has been labeled a shock move, the Miami Heat effectively moved on from their failed pursuit of Damian Lillard, who wound up at the Milwaukee Bucks. They did so with the announcement of a trade for Charlotte Hornets’ Terry Rozier.
The cost? An aging veteran in the form of Kyle Lowry alongside a first-round draft pick. Jimmy Butler and company are currently 6th in the Eastern Conference, having lost ground to their main rivals in the form of the Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Rozier has been in remarkable form this season and is currently averaging 23.2 points, 6.6 assists, and 3.9 rebounds. The fact that those numbers came for a Charlotte Hornets side that has consistently struggled means that the Miami Heat will be looking at the player with utter optimism.
The player seems to be their alternative to Damian Lillard, who has to date given the Bucks 25.3 points, 6.9 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game. A worthy alternative, Rozier can be expected to slot straight into the starting lineup and will be alongside superstars in the form of Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro.
While the franchise arguably made a sensible move, fans seemingly do not agree. One particular Twitter user ended up questioning the move, claiming that going from Rozier to Lillard is an utter downgrade.
Fans not happy with Terri Rozier’s move to the Miami Heat
There had been constant concerns about the Miami Heat’s offense, which was lacking on paper when compared to the top Eastern Conference teams. The 29-year-old is a threat from all parts of the court and has more than proved himself in the NBA.
While fans have some reason to be concerned especially due to the loss of Kyle Lowry, there is no doubt that Rozier is a bigger, and more crucial asset than the 37-year-old. However, fans at the same time, seemingly had a range of reactions.
Some expect the Heat to kick on and climb up the Conference, while others believe that the team is still not looking like championship contenders. Currently reeling with 3 back-to-back losses, the team is still within spitting distance of the top spots and will be hoping for a quick change in fortunes.
The team now boasts 4 scorers who are averaging more than 20 points, alongside an able and physical defense that is a bit of a franchise feature. While Pat Riley was desperate to get Damian Lillard, Rozier appeared to be the next best alternative that was currently available.
