The NBA’s All-Star weekend is in full swing. Basketball fans were waiting to watch the Starry 3-point contest because of the competition. The lineup consisted of some of the biggest superstars in the league currently. The high level of competition was supposed to make the final rounds enthralling. It could have been, had Damian Lillard not won the competition with the final basket.

Entering the final rounds, the contest was in a tie situation between Trae Young and Karl Anthony-Towns, Tyrese Haliburton, and Lillard. Their finishing score of 26 each needed a tie-breaker to decide who would go to the final round.

The ensuing final round also could have gone into a dead heat between Young and Lillard. But despite missing four shots on his final rack, Lillard made the money ball go through, winning the contest as back-to-back champion.

After scoring the winning basket, Damian Lillard flashed his signature ‘Dame Time’ celebration. After all, he won the contest on his last shot. Something he is accustomed to doing during games. Lillard showed a lot of composure to ensure the last shot went in as he claimed later that he could hear the ‘oohs’ from the fans every time he clanked a ball from the last rack.

But basketball fans would have preferred a tie-breaker contest between Lillard and Young. That would have made the night contest one of the best ever. The earlier tie-breaker was incredible for the fans watching from around the globe.

Fans would have loved it if the 3-point contest went into a dead heat

Had Damian Lillard missed his final basket, he would have been tied with Trae Young. As per the rules, that would enforce a 30-second tie-breaker. With the earlier tie-breaker providing enough entertainment, fans would have appreciated had the finale also gone into a dead-heat situation.
