The Milwaukee Bucks had had a couple of disappointing campaigns after their 2021 Championship run. This led to them trading for superstar Damian Lillard, a move that was expected to make them immediate title contenders.

However, Lillard apparently had a hard time adjusting to now-fired head coach Adrian Griffin‘s offense. As reported by The Athletic, the former Trail Blazer could not maximize his abilities in the offensive scheme designed by Griffin. Basketball fans are not convinced by this narrative.

Adrian Griffin was fired from his position earlier. The former Milwaukee Bucks head coach was let go after the team seemed to struggle despite posting a 30-13 record. Reports from the Bucks suggested that their two superstars were not getting the best out of their abilities. While Giannis Antetokounmpo has dropped massive numbers during the run, Lillard on the other hand had several ordinary games.. The defensive struggles also played a hand in Griffin’s firing.

Damian Lillard was traded in by the Bucks giving away defensive stalwart Jrue Holiday, key rotation players as well as first-round draft picks. The pressure was on Griffin from the start to maximize Lillard’s talents. Averages of 25.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6.9 assists are great for most players. But not great enough considering Lillard can produce much better.

So far, he has managed to produce a decent season with a lot of isolation-based plays. Lillard’s offensive output could be better if he transitions to a catch-and-shoot scorer. However, the game plan has not enabled the veteran to grow more into the offense. Antetokounmpo and Lillard both prefer the ball in their hands to score. It has been long clear that some adjustments need to be made.

Fans not buying the Bucks’ narrative of Griffin not maximizing Lillard

Basketball fans are still reeling from the news of Adrian Griffin’s firing. The narrative’s coming from sources is not convincing enough for them. Earlier, they had called out Giannis Antetokounmpo for possibly having a hand in the firing. Now, they are calling out Lillard for not doing enough on his part.

So when news of Lillard not being maximized by Griffin’s offensive game plan emerged, fans quickly vented their frustrations on social media. Most of them were directed at Lillard. The perennial All-Star has been mentioned in their comments shown below;

Lillard has to elevate his game if the Bucks want to take on the best in the league. Somehow getting by lower-position teams is not going to help them land a NBA Championship.
