Damian Lillard, after 11 long years of being loyal to the franchise that got him in the league, demanded a trade out of the Portland Trail Blazers. Many believed he would have been shipped around the league by the NBA Draft. But nothing like that happened, and the franchise drafted Scoot Henderson instead. Later, GM Joe Cronin even issued a statement mentioning the franchise is committed to building around Lillard.
But suddenly it’s a changed story, and Lillard has demanded a trade out of Portland. He even gave the franchise a chance to bring in some talent during the free agency. Unfortunately, once again they disappointed him like the past decade and failed to bring in a superstar. So now there’s nothing wrong with Damian Lillard forcing his way out. The moment he requested a trade, Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets were the top suitors for him.
As the Blazers won’t trade him until they get a superstar back to continue their run as they don’t want to initiate a rebuild right now and are committed to winning. Nothing can be said right now as it all depends upon Blazers and their decisions regarding the future. But undoubtedly, Miami Heat are the front-runners for acquiring Damian Lillard.
Damian Lillard’s time with Portland Trail Blazers
Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers are parting ways so both sides can do what’s good for them. During the past 11 years, the franchise helped Dame become one of the NBA’s TOP 75 players ever. He has drilled some unbelievable shots from way downtown during these years. But unfortunately, the only silverware he has won during his time in Portland is the Rookie of the Year award. As the front office was never able to land the correct pieces around him so he can compete for a championship.
But it’s not over yet and Lillard still wants to be a champion donning a Portland Trail Blazers jersey. As after requesting a trade, he liked a tweet that claimed him to pull a LeBron James-like moment. So maybe he’ll return back to Portland after some years and then lead the team to a title ending his career like a hero.
