Damian Lillard has been on the trade block for the Portland Trail Blazers, hoping to be traded to the Miami Heat so he can partner up with Jimmy Butler and finally fulfill his dream of winning a championship, which he hasn’t been able to do after being with the Blazers for ten seasons.

Heat fans are hoping that Dame gets traded before training camp to get enough time to mesh with the team, but according to NBA Insider Brian Windhorst, that might be a long shot. According to Windhorst, the trade talks between the Heat and the Trail Blazers have been impasse, as the Heat aren’t willing to bargain and increase their offer. At the same time, the Blazers aren’t interested in selling off Dame for an offer they might think can be topped by other teams in the future.

“They’re not having any discussions right now. The Heat aren’t interested in bargaining, the Blazers aren’t interested in selling everybody, and are sort of staying in their corner. Eventually, he’ll be traded. There’s a good chance for the Miami Heat, but you can take it off the burner for a few weeks because I don’t think it’s going to happen while we are here,” Windhorst said.

According to reports, the Miami Heat offered Tyler Herro and draft compensation to the Blazers in exchange for Lillard. Still, the Blazers’ camp isn’t particularly fond of Herro, especially given the fact that they already have multiple up-and-coming guards in Shaedon Sharpe and Anfernee Simons, which makes getting Herro an odd trade for them.

The Portland Trail Blazers might find themselves trading their franchise player to the Miami Heat sometime this offseason or at the trade deadline, as many teams aren’t lining up to trade for the 33-year-old guard, who has a huge contract that pays him over $60 million when he is 36 years old.

In a report by Forbes, where an anonymous NBA executive talked about the Dame situation, it was stated that the Blazers don’t have trade offers for Lillard outside of the Heat, especially given his massive contract. Furthermore, Lillard’s agent, Aaron Goodwin, has warned other teams outside of the Heat that if they trade for Lillard, he might not play his best for the team and wants to be traded to the Heat.

Dame is forcing Portland to trade him to Miami as soon as possible. Still, the Blazers aren’t in a hurry, as they have decided that they will rebuild around their young players and continue to have a future without Damian Lillard on the team.
