Contrary to the popular choice of LeBron James, Russell expressed his belief that Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets holds the title of the best player in the league according to his opinion.

“Yea, they got the best player in basketball,” he said. “They got the best player in basketball on that team. No disrespect to nobody, he’s the best player in the NBA right now. Not even close.”
