“We are not letting go of our HERO” Deandre Ayton’s $133 million extension places Phoenix Suns in NBA’s history books
DeAndre Ayton
Deandre Ayton is back in the valley and will continue to suit up for the Phoenix Suns at least for some more years. Not many expected this to happen but again the Phoenix Suns have been an unexpected team since the signing of Chris Paul. The rumors had Deandre Ayton exiting and parting ways with the franchise and to some extent that was true but it just didn’t happen even after the Indiana Pacers tried their level best to sign the big guy. It was sure the Suns won’t let him walk away for free but them making it to the history books just to have their big guy back has shocked many around.
The Indiana Pacers prized big man Deandre Ayton at $133 million for four years on the offer sheet. For many around the globe once this news was out the Big Man was already gone for them. But the Phoenix Suns then out of nowhere decided to pull the unexpected by matching the offer sheet. They had 48 hours to do so but it didn’t take them long to get Deandre Ayton back. As Shams Charania just in some hours reporting it quoted: “The Phoenix Suns have matched the Indiana Pacers’ four-year, $133 million maximum offer sheet on Deandre Ayton, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Ayton stays in Phoenix.”
Deandre Ayton got what he wanted and even deserved it as he was really an important piece of the team. Especially for the pick and roll system, they have and even the defensive end of theirs is backed a lot by him as a rim protector who can even be a playmaker in transition or finish it at the rim. So it’s fair to say it’s a win-win deal for both the sides. But the Suns probably believe they paid a little extra.
Phoenix Suns make it to the history books after bringing Deandre Ayton back
The Phoenix Suns have made it to the history books with a new record of matching offers. As while bringing Deandre Ayton back, they matched the largest contract in NBA History. It was earlier held by the Washington Wizards as they signed Otto Porter Jr in 2017 by matching the offer at $106.5 million for 4 years. It wasn’t really expected to end this way but it is what it is and Ayton will be suiting up with Chris Paul and Devin Booker for some more years as it all ends happily.
