The NBA announced the results of the Most Improved Player of the Year voting in the last week of April, with Ja Morant taking home the annual award. But the superstar guard of Memphis only won by a slight margin, with Dejounte Murray a mere 38 points behind him as the runner-up. There is no doubt the former 29th overall pick deserved consideration for this esteemed hardware, as he raised his points, rebounds, assists, steals, and shooting percentages from a season ago. Most impressive was all his growth came in his first year as the go-to option for the Spurs

However, everybody expected Murray to make it to the All-Defensive NBA team with surprising sturdiness in defense. Everybody was left shocked as the All-Defensive team had no Murray in it. The San-Antonio Spurs point guard has been rock solid in defense and averages 2 Steals Per Game, above everybody else in the league. The only other instance of this happening in recent history has been Stephen cuury in 2016 !

The fans slammed the NBA on Twitter for not acknowledging the efforts of Murray in defense.

Unfortunately, the San Antonio Spurs did not manage to advance past the play-in tournament stage this year. However, they could definitely be a better team next season if some of their other young players improve, such as Keldon Johnson. Dejounte Murray wasn’t able to bring the San Antonio Spurs to the playoffs this year, but perhaps that will change next season.
