Former Sixth Man of the Year Dell Curry, a revered figure in the history of the Charlotte Hornets, once graced the hardwood himself. A bit of a sharpshooter as his sons would go on to be, Dell Curry actually retired as the highest scorer, as well as the player with the most amount of 3s, for the Hornets.
As the first player selected by the franchise in the 1988 NBA expansion draft, Curry’s journey began as a cornerstone for the Hornets, marking the inception of a bonafide legacy. Now, after 26 years since Dell’s departure from the Hornets, destiny has come full circle as his son, Seth Curry, dons the iconic No. 30 jersey once adorned by his father. In a remarkable twist of fate, Seth’s arrival in Charlotte, following a trade from the Dallas Mavericks, signifies the continuation of a familial bond deeply rooted in the fabric of Hornets history.
The stage was set on a memorable Saturday night when Seth Curry made his debut for the Hornets against the Memphis Grizzlies, a moment made even more special as his father, Dell Curry, provided commentary for the game on Bally Sports South. As Seth checked into the game, proudly sporting his father’s revered number, Dell’s deadpan acknowledgment spoke volumes, encapsulating the sentiment of a proud father:
It's a dream come true as a dad that played here for 10 years to have your son play and wear the same number. I haven't stopped smiling since the trade was made and now it all comes to fruition.
Dell Curry is also a bonafide NBA legend
During his illustrious tenure with the team, Dell Curry not only exemplified excellence on the court but also embodied the spirit of Charlotte basketball. His contributions played an integral role in shaping the identity of the Hornets, leading the team through pivotal moments and garnering widespread adoration from fans across the region.
On Saturday, in the Warriors vs Suns game, after a play, Nurkic did the celebration on Green’s defense. But just a few minutes later Green finished the layup on the 7ft center and returned the celebration on Nurkic who failed to guard the play. NBA fans were excited to see such competitive behavior in a close game.
Nurkic being a physically bigger player than Green was called out by Green in the post-game interview. He said Nurkic needs to be careful if he is going to get the celebration exchanged just sometime later, with even Stephen Curry getting in on the act.
