The idea that LeBron James‘ mother Gloria had an affair with her son’s former teammate Delonte West has perhaps lasted longer than any other sports rumor. The allegations persisted for so long that West himself had decided to rectify the situation and deny those claims.

In the 2004 NBA Draft, Delonte West, a former third-team All-American in college basketball, was drafted. West played in the NBA for eight seasons along with stars like Paul Pierce, Lebron James, and Dirk Nowitzki, his latest stint coming in 2012 while playing point guard for the Dallas Mavericks.

Number one, something like that never happened. I don't know where they got that from. For a strong black woman like that, for people to try to tear her down, that's terrible. That's terrible in so many ways.

Although West was a success on the court, his personal life was terrible, and he battled it in silence. Over the past few years, he has seen many highs and lows, including homelessness and support from some of the NBA’s best players. West, who is presently engaged at a rehab center, was embroiled in a scandal when playing for the Cavaliers because he was involved with LeBron James’ mother Gloria.

West was accused of sleeping with LeBron James’ mom

Delonte West and LeBron James had a contentious relationship since 2010 as there were several reports that West was having an affair with James’ mother Gloria, which The King was reportedly not a fan of. LeBron discovered these rumors before Game Four of the Conference Finals matchup against the Celtics, which broke their unity and caused discontent.

West was moved to the Boston Celtics in 2011, despite his denial of the allegations. According to some accounts, James orchestrated the trade because he wanted to get West out of the Cavaliers. Before leaving the NBA, he played one more season with the Dallas Mavericks.

The 38-year-old West was found shackled and stripped on the side of the road in January 2020. In October 2020, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban helped him check into a rehab center to begin. He appeared to be doing better, but in October he was supposedly imprisoned after a drunken altercation with the police. The fact that West recently admitted to having mental health concerns and oftentimes forgetting that he had played in the NBA makes his situation worse. Although West’s present situation is bad since he is no longer in the game, it is not too late for him to get up and make a change.
