“F*ck No! I’m not coming to play with y’all” DeMar DeRozan reveals the hilarious manner in which he turned down Draymond Green, Warriors

DeMar DeRozan on Draymond Green Podcast

In his Podcast, Draymond Green revealed that he previously asked DeMar DeRozan to join the Golden State Warriors in 2021. The star forward was fresh into the free agency and was desperately searching for the franchise after representing San Antonio for couple of seasons. Indeed it is safe to say that DeRozan’s reaction to Draymond’s request was a shocking one. The veteran scorer joined Chicago Bulls in 2021 and re-introduced himself to the league. As a result of which, his team finished 6th in the East and crashed out of the 2022 playoffs in the opening round against the Bucks. Had he joined the Warriors, it would be his 1st NBA Championship.

Warriors’ star man Green revealed that he asked DeRozan to join the Golden State Warriors, to which DeRozan had one reaction: “F**k no.” Poking some fun at his counterpart Green said, “But if you come to the Warriors, we can win a championship if you come to the Warriors. He didn’t come, we still won a championship, but he didn’t come… Had to throw that one out there.”

It was also revealed the Green checked in on DeRozan almost every single day of the 2021 off-season. Interestingly, DeRozan being willing to take the veteran’s minimum or a discount during the 2021-22 NBA season made Green check-in. Warriors would have landed a superstar fitting their wage bill after they were hit by Cap space limitations.

32-year-old DeRozan had proved himself at the highest level, especially at Toronto Raptors. Entering his 14th season in the league, the star forward averaged 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. Though not many would consider them as very flashy stats, he is one of the most Clutch players in the NBA. He had to make move to the Spurs to facilitate the Kwahi Leonard deal.

But after 2 seasons of delivering steady performances at the Spurs, DeRozan wanted to test the free agency. He joined hands with the young Bulls and it proved to be a great collaboration for both parties. DeRozan had a career-best 28-point average for the Bulls, While his long-range shooting also was better.

Bulls looked like a strong contender from the East for the title, but injuries to their star players halted their run in the 1st round, as they lost the series 4-1 against defending champions, Bucks. But it was a personal satisfactory season for DeMar DeRozan, who reinvented his form with a young Bulls core around him.

As for the Warriors, where Draymond Green tried to add DeRozan at the Veteran minimum contract, it would have been a complete power shift for the Warriors. They already had their core coming together and young players performing at a high level. Adding DeRozan would have solidified their chance for the Championship.

But never-the-less, 1st-time Finals MVP Stephen Curry powered them through with help of All-Star starter Andrew Wiggins and returning Klay Thomson. The warriors won their 4th championship in 8 seasons. So DeRozan would have won his 1st title, but at the cost of lesser pay and impactful plays.

So individually DeRozan had proved himself better with the Bulls, and as team Warriors proved themselves in the league winning the title with their fit roaster only.
