The Los Angeles Lakers came up on top in Game 4 against the Golden State Warriors, defeating the latter by a 3-point margin. The game that ended 104-101 saw several discussions of bias from the officials and other drama surrounding the Lakers flopping. The most talked about allegation came from Warriors Head Coach, Steve Kerr. Kerr alleged that the Lakers were reaping benefits off fake calls and flops, which resulted in their win. Lakers star Dennis Schröder wasted no time in replying to these allegations.
Schröder hopped on Adin Ross’ online stream to talk about the Lakers’ win over the Warriors and Steve Kerr’s allegations. He started off by talking about the number of free throws that have been in question throughout the series. Schröder said, “Steve Kerr went on the media and said they didn’t get no calls. We flopped all game. They didn’t get no free throws. But if you shoot 53 threes, how you gonna get to the free-throw line?” Schröder then went on to say that he didn’t really “feel” (like) Kerr’s comments regarding the issue.
Schröder then went head-to-head with the flopping allegations, as he called it, a necessity to some extent. He said, “If they set illegal screens, sometimes you gotta show them that they are moving on the screen. If you don’t do it, they’re not gonna call it.” Schröder indirectly accepted that the Lakers were using flops to get the referees’ attention on fouls to gain an advantage.
This response from Dennis Schröder directly highlighted the Lakers’ smart strategies and how they were picking apart the Warriors thanks to their playing style. It’ll be interesting to see if Coach Kerr will have anything to say about this.

Los Angeles Lakers vs Golden State Warriors, a series marred with CONTROVERSY
The Los Angeles Lakers vs Golden State Warriors Western Conference Semi-Finals series has been marred with controversies. In fact, it isn’t just this series, but controversies around officiating haven’t left the court, this entire playoff. The Warriors vs Lakers series specifically highlighted the free-throw disparity between both teams, along with issues around flopping in-game.
Post their Game 3 loss, Kerr said, “We didn’t lose the game because of the officials so there’s no point in whining about anything. There were definitely calls we didn’t like but every game every coach can say that. This is not about anything other than our performance.” But his attitude changed after Game 4, where he directly targeted some calls from the referees. He had said, “I think we had three or four illegal screens called, and that was disappointing. I didn’t get a look at the replay on any of them, but there were a couple that were very disappointing live.”
Nevertheless, despite all the allegations and drama, the Lakers have managed to dominate the series so far. They now stand one step close to kicking the Warriors out of the playoffs. Dennis Schröder’s answer can be taken as a lesson by Kerr, who will definitely want to make changes in the game. Whatever changes Kerr plans on making, they need to be quick. It’ll be interesting to see how the Warriors plan on bouncing back in Game 5, a do-or-die for the team. Game 5 goes down on Friday, stay tuned for all updates!
