The Detroit Pistons now have officially the worst single-season consecutive losses record in NBA history. The record came about after the Brooklyn Nets recently handed the Pistons their 27th consecutive loss of their season tonight.
Going into the game against the Nets, the Pistons were staring at having their name etched as one of the worst teams in NBA history. All they needed was one win to not have their names in basketball history books. The Brooklyn Nets are not among the NBA’s Elite. However, they are still in the reckoning for a Playoff spot. With the Nets unfortunately winning the game 118-112, Piston’s head coach Monty Williams‘ name has been called time and again by fans, who want him gone as a result of the record.
The Pistons headed into the game with most of their starters healthy. Rising star Cade Cunningham put up a herculean effort to avoid the infamous record. He put up 41 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists to lead the Pistons. The sad state of affairs of the Pistons saw only 4 out of their 10 players who played finish in double-digits. Bojan Bogdanovic added 23 points and 3 rebounds.
The Brooklyn Nets won the game on the back of a 24-point, 2-rebound effort from Cameron Johnson. Mikal Bridges added 21 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. In comparison with the Pistons, 6 of their 9 players finished in double-digits. The Nets won despite the Pistons dominating the boards 52-42.
Fans are losing patience with Monty Williams
As the Pistons were inching towards this infamous record, Detroit Pistons fans were already calling for the firing of Monty Williams. GM Troy Weaver was also in the chatter. Monty Williams has asked for patience despite their struggles. According to Williams, the team will rebound from their current downfall.
However, basketball fans are not convinced. According to many, Williams should have been fired when the team started to lose a lot of consecutive games. The massive contract Williams signed has not been justified. Check out some of the fan’s comments on social media.
Many Pistons fans chanted in their last home game for the owner to sell the team. Now basketball fans across the world are chiming in with their inputs. The Pistons need to turn their season around, soon. Else, the noise will simply not stop.
