Superstar Kevin Durant was coming under increasing scrutiny for his time with the Phoenix Suns. Despite playing at an elite level throughout the season, the Suns have a .500 record and stand just outside the play-in spots.

Kevin Durant was traded to the Suns last season with the target of bringing them a championship. With a lot of fans and analysts calling out the franchise for their lackluster play this season, it was being touted that Durant should probably not continue in Phoenix. In tonight’s game against the Houston Rockets, the Suns came up big. Duane Rankin of azcentral asked Devin Booker after the game about Durant’s performance. He said;

Unbelievable. Great bounce-back game after all the noise.

Booker believes this game will be a step forward for their resurgence and rise toward the top of the Western Conference.

This off-season, Bradley Beal was brought in to form an elite big 3 of Durant, Beal, and superstar Devin Booker. However, the lack of game time for Beal has affected them a lot. Phoenix does not have the quality in depth to get over Beal’s absence. To get these three superstars playing together, the Suns seemingly have to add a bunch of role players in order to ensure depth.

Durant has been performing at a high level since the season started, averaging 30.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 5.9 assists. Devin Booker playing the point guard position is averaging 27 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 8.2 assists this season. With this win, Phoenix is 15-15 and 11th in the Western Conference.

The Suns hoping tonight’s game is the turning point of their season

Heading into tonight’s game, the Suns were staring at a losing record. Kevin Durant put up his 18th career triple-double with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 16 assists showing. Eric Gordon added 27 points off the back of 7-11 shots from three-point range to help the Suns win 129-113 against his former team. Devin Booker added 20 points and 7 assists.

Alperen Sengun led the Houston Rockets with 24 points and 5 rebounds. Jalen Green added 23 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. The Rockets lost Jabari Smith Jr in the third quarter due to a sprained left ankle. Dillon Brooks missed his first game of the season, nursing an oblique strain he suffered in the last match.

The Suns will be itching to quickly turn around their season. Else, the criticism will only continue to grow. The same is eventually bound to affect Durant as well, who might as well consider his options if their form continues.
