Dillon Brooks did his part to help the Houston Rockets blow out the Los Angeles Lakers yesterday. His taunts, toughness, and a few dirty plays helped in taking down the Lakers. Now, leaked audio from the game showcases the level of taunting Brooks dished out against the Lakers. Moreover, it also shows how mentally it took a toll on the players in Purple and Gold.

Leaked audio footage first captures Brooks talking trash to Lakers player Jarred Vanderbilt. When Vanderbilt complained to the referees that Brooks was pushing him, Brooks responded with;

You’re a pu**y

Later in the fourth quarter, Brooks was guarded by Lakers superstar LeBron James out on the perimeter. Brooks shakes off James with a dribble to the right and shoots a jumper. Then on the way back to the Rockets half, Brooks stares down James all the way. Adding some choice words to James, Brooks said:

I can go right or left.

Such was the taunts Brooks dished out to James and the Lakers. They paid off in the end, as the Rockets emerged comfortable victors.

With almost 5 minutes left in the game, James went up for a rebound. Brooks came flying in to try and take the rebound himself. On the way back to the ground, the Canadian international smacked James in the face with his left hand, who lay down on the floor in pain. After the referees deemed the foul to be just a Flagrant 1, James lashed out at the referees, saying;

My nose was bleeding!

After all, James was enraged with the way Brooks was getting off the hook for his dirty plays. He wanted Brooks ejected, which is why he mentioned the bleeding nose.

The Rockets trounced the Lakers 135-119. By and large, Ime Udoka‘s side leaned on their youth and Brooks’ level-1 defense to stop the Lakers from winning three games in a row.

Dillon Brooks and LeBron James have a history

In last year’s first-round Western Conference playoffs, the young Memphis Grizzlies went up against the LeBron James-led Lakers. Brooks was a part of the Grizzlies who had a ‘we can win it all’ mentality. He proceeded to taunt LeBron James during the series. At one point, he mentioned that James was old and that he does not respect anyone unless they drop 40 points on him.

James and the Lakers did just that to round off the series. The 39-year-old also overcame a low blow which got Brooks ejected in Game 3.

Heading into this season, it seemed Brooks might have learned his lesson. He did not seem to try anything new on James in the previous three games. However, it seems as if James getting head coach Ime Udoka ejected for trash-talking motivated Brooks in this game.

LeBron James and the Lakers will not play against the Rockets anymore in the regular season. But the playoffs could see a resumption of the battle. If it happens, expect a lot of fireworks.
