Dillon Brooks is easily one of the most talked about players in the NBA right now. Following his altercations with LeBron James, the entire NBA fraternity is talking about him. Needless to say, Brooks hasn’t had the most likable reputation in the league. According to popular opinion, he would probably not feature in the most admired list of players either. However, after Game 4 of the first-round series between the Los Angeles Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies, the crackdown on Brooks by the fans and media has intensified.
The Grizzlies forward has continuously been under the radar of the media throughout the course of the series. Game 4 in Los Angeles saw James at his absolute best. The NBA veteran scored a clutch bucket and sent the game to overtime. Memphis failed to capitalize on the extended five minutes as the Lakers won 111-117.
James drove to the basket with Brooks guarding him and managed to pick up a foul, leaving fans and critics in absolute awe. While everyone was in praise of the Lakers superstar, the mockery of Brooks increased as the Memphis forward declined to speak to the media after the game. Moreover, Brooks’ Instagram handle was recently discovered to be deactivated.
While fans were always critical of Dillon Brooks, the intense criticism of the Grizzly started after NBA analysts got into the action. Even former players and players from out of the NBA were heard making comments about Brooks. Damian Lillard recently made a tweet without much context.“You can’t be “HIM” one day and in a identity crisis a few days later.”. While followers are in all kinds of speculations, most fans believe that this was a shade at Dillon Brooks. Particularly mocking his oblivious attitude toward his situation with James.

How did the Brooks-James feud start?
The tussle between the two forwards started in Game 2 where the Los Angeles Lakers had a 1-0 series lead. Trailing by as much as 16 points, LeBron James scored a mid-range jumper on Brooks and let him hear about it. The Memphis player then retaliated by clapping in front of the Laker’s face to rile him up. That was the moment when fans and critics pointed out the Grizzlies star for his disrespectful attitude. Speaking about LeBron James and the trash-talking episode after the game, Brooks said, “I don’t care. He’s old,”
Game 3 saw the two players engaging in a conversation during the pre-game routine. Fans were left dumbstruck seeing both of them talking and smiling. Although the details of the conversation are not disclosed, many believe that it was part of the entire beef. Later, during the game, Brooks would be ejected on the grounds of a flagrant two for hitting James in the groin.
Although he declined to speak to the press after Game 3, ahead of Game 4, Dillon Brooks spoke in an interview about how he thinks the media portrays him. “The media making me a villain. The fans making me a villain. Then that just creates a whole different persona of me. So now you think I intended to hit LeBron James in the nuts,” he said. Heading into Game 5, the Lakers lead the series 3-1 with a chance to win and advance to conference semi-finals.
