Memphis Grizzlies star Dillion Brooks fired shots at LeBron James after the Memphis Grizzlies won Game 2 against the Los Angeles Lakers and leveled the first-round series between the two. Despite missing Ja Morant, the Grizzlies pulled out a 103-93 win. Brooks and James were chirping at each other all game with the Lakers superstar calling the Memphis guard a “motherf***ing bum” in the third quarter.
In the post-game interview, Brooks continued his beef with James. He said, “I don’t respect someone until they give me 40.” The Lakers forward finished the game with 28 points, leading his team in scoring on a rough shooting night for the Lakers.
Brooks continued to add fuel to fire during his post-game interview. Speaking about James, he said, “I don’t care, he’s old… He wanted to say something when I got my fourth foul, he should’ve been saying that earlier on.” The 27-year-old guard said that he expects the Lakers star to start talking trash in Game 4 or 5 but he was ready to give it back to him in Game 2.
“I poke bears..I pride myself in what I do is defense,” concluded Dillion Brooks. He has built a reputation as a notorious trash-talker this season, especially against teams like the Golden State Warriors and the Lakers.
Dillion Brooks established himself as the villain of the NBA this season
Trash-talking is Dillion Brooks’ strong suit outside of his basketball skills, and he actively engaged in it during the 2022/23 NBA season. It’s unusual to watch him play a game without sparking a debate. He led the league in technical fouls with 18, one more than Luka Doncic, Trae Young, and Draymond Green. This season alone, he has been fined about $260,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct and technical fouls. He was also ejected twice.
Dillon Brooks and Draymond Green recently traded verbal barbs, with Brooks claiming he was the better player. Green, though, has not held back in responding, calling Brooks an “idiot.” When the Grizzlies and the Warriors played each other this season, the Golden State players did not hold back from taunting Brooks as Klay Thompson celebrated the game-sealing three in his face.
Other NBA players like Donovan Mitchell and Russell Westbrook have also had verbal spats with Dillion Brooks. The Grizzlies star hit Mitchell in the groin and the latter called him a player who takes cheap shots, insisting that he has dominated Brooks his whole career. Brooks seems to have no problem being the villain, and this season he certainly managed to trigger quite a few fanbases.
