The NBA is filled with trash-talking players who love to make bold statements and play rough. They enjoy getting under people’s skin and pulling various types of antics. An example of this is Golden State Warriors defender Draymond Green. Green, at the very least, has four championships to back up his demeanor. A player who is just as drama-hungry but has no rings to back it up is Dillon Brooks.
Brooks stole the spotlight from everyone this past season, dubbing himself as the villain of the league. He constantly feuded with various players and teams throughout the season, earning him the second-most technical fouls of the season with 17, just one behind the top spot held by Green. He has a laundry list of players he is beefing with. He claims to have improved over this off-season after being let go by the Memphis Grizzlies and being picked up by the Houston Rockets. Fans had quite a reaction to it.
While being interviewed after Canada’s quarterfinal victory, Dillon stated, “I feel like I’m the best perimeter defender in the league. In the NBA, in the world. I feel like I can bring a different type of defense, through my IQ, to the game, but also with the discipline I have on the field. He made this statement after Canada’s victory. Interestingly, Brooks had been ejected from this same game for unsportsmanlike conduct. He helped his team to victory with an efficient 14 points off 5-7 shooting in just 28 minutes of play.
He also managed to get under Slovenia’s star player and NBA superstar Luka Doncic‘s skin, taunting him during the game. Doncic managed to get himself ejected from the game after receiving technicals, the first of which was due to arguing with the refs after they missed a foul call on Brooks’s attempt to block his layup. Canada blew Slovenia out of the water, winning 100-89.
This will be the nation’s first-ever semi-final appearance, giving them a shot at taking home the gold. Brooks was obviously feeling himself and started to make these tall claims about being the best defender in the world, which NBA fans didn’t take kindly to either.
How did NBA fans react to Dillon Brooks’ claims?
Brooks has been feeling himself during the FIBA World Cup. Now that his team has made the semi-finals for the first time in history, he started to make some bold claims, stating that he is “the best defender in the league, in the NBA, in the world.” NBA fans obviously didn’t take kindly to his words and took to social media to troll the Rockets player.
