Former Memphis Grizzlies star, Dillon Brooks, continues to make headlines with his comments on basketball legend, LeBron James. The lucrative contract that Brooks recently signed with the Houston Rockets hasn’t made a difference to his outspoken nature.
Their rivalry can be traced back to the Western Conference playoffs’ first round when the Memphis Grizzlies took on the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite the Lakers moving ahead in the postseason, Brooks seemed convinced that he had the upper hand against James.
Recently, while representing Canada’s national team at the FIBA Basketball World Cup, Brooks was asked about that notable playoff series in an interview with Arash Madani of Sportsnet. “I feel like I always had him,” stated Brooks, adding, “I feel like that series was thrown upon me because of the words that I say, but I’ve been saying things all year and we won 50 games.”
It’s worth noting that after securing a victory in Game 2, Brooks sparked controversy by referring to James as “old.” His audacity continued when he said that no player earns his respect unless they drop 40 points on him. Such provocative comments cost him in Game 3, where he was ejected for striking LeBron in a sensitive area. However, in Game 4, Brooks couldn’t prevent LeBron from sealing the win for the Lakers.
Following the playoff series, LeBron couldn’t resist addressing Brooks’ comments. In a humorous response on Instagram, James said, “If you ever see me fighting in the forest with a Grizzly bear, HELP THE BEAR.”
NBA fans troll Brooks for continuing the feud
NBA fans are no strangers to the ongoing banter and rivalry between players. The Brooks-James drama has kept fans entertained with reactions coming in from all directions.
One fan tweeted, “Mouth writing checks his ass can’t cash.” suggesting that Brooks might be overstepping with his taunts. Another fan commented “Dillon just please stop talking. Do yourself a favor”
