“Listen, are you going to do it or not?” Doc Rivers reveals how his daughter tried to stop him from trading away Seth Curry to Brooklyn
Seth Curry and Doc Rivers
Seth Curry was involved in the blockbuster trade between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Brooklyn Nets which involved James Harden going to the Sixers. Doc Rivers recently acknowledged that his daughter attempted to persuade him to exclude Curry as part of the arrangement. Curry married Rivers’ daughter Callie back in 2019. Seth Curry is Doc Rivers’ son-in-law, which is why making that choice was very difficult for him.
During a guest appearance on “Back On the Record with Bob Costas,” he reflected on the peculiar circumstance. Speaking of the trade between the Brooklyn Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers that involved James Harden, Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond and other draft picks, Rivers said, “Trading Seth, I had to deal with my daughter … who had two young babies. That’s a completely different thing,” Rivers explained. The decision for Rivers was a difficult one to take and he certainly had not a lot of say in the deal.
Doc has been under a lot of pressure from the organization to bring a championship to the city and the blockbuster trade was already making rounds in the NBA when Rivers’ daughter Callie Rivers called him and told him not to do it. Recalling the conversation Doc said, “The night before, because there was a rumor it was going to happen, I get a call from my daughter. ‘Listen! Are you gonna do it or not?’ And I said, ‘You know, Callie, I can’t…’ [She says], ‘I’m your daughter!’ I said, ‘Well, Callie, I don’t know. I can’t…’ ‘I’m your daughter!’ That was a tough one.”
Speaking of the after-trade and Seth Curry being traded to Brooklyn, Doc happily admitted that his daughter was very happy to be in Brookly and loving her new home. Doc said, “Well, she ended up in Brooklyn and she is the happiest ever. And for me, I can still get in my car and in 90 minutes, I can be in Brooklyn, so it turned out okay.”

Seth Curry is back from injury and still can’t help Brooklyn Nets’ downfall
Before being traded to the Nets, Seth Curry completed the entire 2020–21 season and a part of the 2021–22 season with the Philadelphia 76ers. He averaged 13.6 points per game while playing for the 76ers. Seth Curry also started all of 102 games for the Sixers. For the Brooklyn Nets return of Seth Curry is a definite big boost. As the younger Curry brother is an excellent shooter and can create his own offense at times when needed.
After his return to the squad from the injury, Curry stood out with his performance against the Los Angeles Clippers and scored 22 points in just 28 minutes. Kevin Durant was highly appreciative of Seth handling and running the offense for the Nets. “He’s another ballhandler, scorer, somebody that can get hot and be a wild card for us,” Durant said. “He ran the point in the fourth and continued to control the game and won the game for us,” added Durant.
But the Nets’ loss against the Sacramento Kings was one of the worst in the franchise’s history. Despite great effort from Durant and the rest of the roster, the Nets ended up with 153 points getting scored on them. Ben Simmons is not the All-Star Player they wanted him to be, Kyrie Irving is out and it is a huge bump for the Nets.
