Draymond Green, after months of silence, has finally spoken out about the highly-publicized incident that took place during last year’s training camp, where he punched his former teammate Jordan Poole.
The fallout from the incident continued to linger over the Golden State Warriors throughout the entirety of the previous season, casting a shadow over the team until their eventual exit from the playoffs. The situation became increasingly difficult to navigate, forcing the organization to make a choice between Green and Poole, which eventually led to Poole’s departure from the team.
The Warrior’s veteran justified his actions in an appearance on The Pat Bev podcast. “I don’t just hit people,” he said. Dialogue happens over time and you usually ain’t triggered by something that fast. We know stuff you don’t say amongst men. We know things that you have to stand on.”
A few months ago, a leaked dialogue between Green and Poole came to light. In the alleged exchange, Poole mocked Green’s contract situation as he was awaiting an extension from the Warriors. The situation worsened when a video of Green physically hitting Poole went viral on social media, adding fuel to the fire and intensifying their strained relationship.
While Jordan Poole chose not to comment on the incident, his father, Anthony Poole, responded strongly to Green’s remarks. Anthony Poole stated, “Jp was his guy, and he avoided me all last year. He is as soft as ****h, and I’m standing by that. He didn’t apologize to me and my wife.” Anthony Poole even issued a direct challenge to Green, saying, “So he lame and me and him can meet anytime he want.”
