“I failed him because I didn’t play well” Draymond Green details upon Stephen Curry’s monumental importance ahead of Game 2 of NBA Finals

Draymond Green furious at himself for letting Stephen Curry down
The 3-point God descended on the court and mesmerized us with his divine shooting ability, Draymond Green was in awe of Stephen Curry during his stellar display on Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Steph Curry dropped an NBA Finals record 21 first quarter points and it appeared like the Warriors were poised to keep their perfect home record intact. The Celtics took control of the game in the fourth quarter, going on a 20-0 run that stunned the Warriors, 120-108, in San Francisco, taking a 1-0 lead in the NBA Finals, in a full-blooded contest where each team traded blows, a game full of crazy momentum shifts, in which Draymond cursed himself for not showing up.
Draymond has been vocal off the court, not on it as Boston stunned the Warriors in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. The Golden State Warriors were invincible on their home floor during the 2022 NBA playoffs and for three quarters it looked like they would dominate Game 1 of their NBA Finals series against the Boston Celtics. However, things fell apart horribly over the course of the final 12 minutes of action as the visitors walked into Chase Center and outscored the Warriors 40-16 during the fourth quarter to come away with a 120-108 win.

The talismans for both sides shone bright as Stephen Curry led all scorers with a game-high 34 points while Andrew Wiggins, Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole combined for 44 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists of their own. In the end, that was not enough to overcome the performance from Jaylen Brown, Al Horford and Derrick White as the road team was able to steal home-court advantage in Game 1.Al Horford, playing in his first Finals, paced the Celtics with 26 points and Jaylen Brown had 24 points and Derrick White added 21 points off the bench.

“ I have to make sure that I do my part” – Draymond Green apologizes to Stephen Curry for poor display in Game 1

Stephen Curry made a 3-pointer for the first basket of the game, which started a historic first quarter in which he made six 3s and scored 21 points. The six 3s were an NBA Finals record for the most ever made in a single quarter by one player, and the 21 points were the most a player has had in a Finals quarter since Michael Jordan in 1993. The Boston Celtics endured it all and still emerged as victors, as Draymond Green took responsibility for the Golden State Warriors’ Game 1 loss in the NBA Finals.
After a flaming start to the game by Steph Curry, Warriors looked comfortable in the driving seat way as they enjoyed a 12-point lead entering the fourth quarter. However, Jaylen Brown and Al Horford exploded in the 4th quarter, with incredible contributions by Marcus Smart and Derrick White led to the Celtics, outscoring GSW 40-16 in the final period. Green told reporters after the 120-108 loss that the Warriors will be “fine” moving forward but also acknowledged that he needed to pull his weight.
“When I look back at the game, I failed him (Steph Curry) because I didn’t play well. And when he comes out guns blazing like that, playing the way he’s playing, I have to make sure that I do my part. To make sure that ends in a win. I know I have to play better, But the way Stephen Curry got out to that start was very promising. And I think we’ll start to see more of that. And myself and other guys can help and make sure that continues.”
The Warriors forward struggled to find his offensive form in Golden State’s home loss to Boston, Green finished Thursday’s game with four points and five assists, missing 10 shots and turning the ball over three times before fouling out. Curry had a game-high 34 points and shot 50 percent from behind the 3-point line. Considering Curry sizzling form, Jayson Tatum was an horrible 3-of-17 from the field and the game was in San Francisco, it was a shocking loss for the Warriors. While they are down just one game at home, it felt like a shockwave hit the Warrior’s fans, which could have a huge impact on the Finals.

The Celtics also deserve plenty of praise not only for locking the Warriors down on the defensive end in the fourth quarter but also for catching fire from deep during their comeback. If there is someone you can count on to bounce back in Game 2, it’s Draymond Green. Green plays for glory and will do everything in his power to compliment his team in any position whatsoever, for the sake of victory.

“It’s first to four, not first to one.” Klay said in the post game conference and rightly so. It’s a wake-up call for the Warriors, a warning from Boston and Big Al, that this is going down to the wire. If the Celtics can continue getting key performances from players like Horford and White, they’ll be in a good position down the stretch, however, don’t count the Splash Brothers out yet. Steph showed us what he is capable of in the first quarter today, once Klay and Poole get going and Draymond finds the beast in him, Boston will be in trouble. Get ready for a battle of the ages, as the NBA Title hangs in the balance.
